The joys of dealer work

Recommended Posts

I get a call yesterday from a Dealership that a customer of a brand new vehicle has requested 3m window film.

Sure I'll help you out I say.

So the car is booked to be trucked over to my workshop this morning. About 35ks
I'm waiting, waiting, waiting. Then call th dealer and can't get through to the stock controller. Leave messages etc...

Finally she calls me at 3pm saying she's only just found out the trucking company thought it was for Monday????

Lucky I had an easy day today and didn't knock back any work.
Really lucky for the dealer I'm a nice guy and ONLY going to do it for the customer of the vehicle.

I doubt I'll ever get another one from them unless its specified 3M????
Probably get paid in 120 days too? LMFAO.

Bastards GT! Feel for you on this one. :evileye

They think you are their servant to be so righteous to work for them....who cares if you have just blown half a day waiting for them.

Wouldn't it be nice to invoice them for lost income where you could have deferred a private sale because you were waiting on their car to come in?

Dealer work...ahhhh...nothing new mate and to wait for payment as well.

We all learn something everyday with this job and nothing surprises me these days with the trade.

As it was way back then, it is still the same today and will never change.

I sincerely hope you can get to the stage to be able to shove the dealer work and concentrate on the more appreciative private sector work.

Cheers. :cool

Hey Dev.

All good. I don't take it personally. Crap happens I suppose?

I haven't done a dealer car in over 10 years.

Because I haven't done a VF yet, they were bringing it to me, charging a good price and the customer really wants 3M, I thought why not.

I know the customer will never know what really happens and I know the dealer won't give a rats about it.

Believe me, that tint job will come out perfect!

The car is due for delivery on Monday and I know what it feels like for a customer to be let down by dealerships.

I don't want dealerships! I honestly can't service them the way they want.

My commercial clients and retail keep me going all year with steady work.

Just brought back memories of the bad ol days.

.

Then you haven't got the right dealerships .

Right now we've gone through the crappiest , longest winter I can remember in YEARS and I have a steady flow of high paying, lightning quick paying , appreciating , non price haggling dealers while my off the street business has hibernated with the weather

Hey you know what I could do.

Tint the car and refuse to release it until I get full payment plus lost time.

That would really kick em in the pants

Wouldn't that be lovely?

When you get the car, really take a note how that darn new door trim on the VF seal fits into the top of the trim.

Even take a prior photo for reference.

Nothing like a VE.

The future of my tinting business will never, ever be held in the hands of a car dealership again..

I don't mean to sound like an a hole.. But when it comes to dealer work, it's my way or no way.

Just my 2 cents... (Which is about the going rate for a dealer car these days)

GTint, I absolutely hate when people do that to you. It's just plain rude and costly for you.

If I did that to my doctor or specialist, I would get a bill for the appointment still, and I would understand why.

They don't realise, or just don't care, that you have blocked out a chunk of your time to do their work.

It has become so bad with auto customers doing this to me now that I just book in the work for the day and refuse to block out time for anyone.

This in spite of the fact that they all get reminders of their appointments and asking them to let us know if there is any problems with making the appointment.

Now, they come in for the day and when the car is done is when they can have it back. When they actually turn up, then I will give them an estimate of when the car will be ready,If they don't like that, they can go elsewhere.

Dealers should know better, they know how a workshop runs.

TW, I think you know you have got the exception rather than the rule with your dealers...I have only ever been able to negotiate with  2 of my dealers in the past to operate in the way that was beneficial to both of us, the others would not change no matter how many meetings etc we had and we parted company in the end.
