I'll give it a try,,why not,,  keep in mind,,,I am not a flat glass guy, so sorry if my input in off........but when you say "smokey" in terms of frosted films.  I think of  a frosted that is more opaque and "yellowish" or "not quite white" .  I think the harder to see through it, the "smokier" it is, I guess :?  Some frosted films are easier to see through at close range while some are more frosted and harder to see through even close up.   :twocents

When I hear "smokey" frosted film, I think of Solyx's Dusted or Deep Etch  It is a frosted/matte film but has a "dirtier" color then the white frosted varieties. Which I attribute more to "smokey."

 

Though as far as most people, I agree with Bham, more of the "milky" look then opaque. Maybe like Transparent White Matte   :dunno
