Tinting at a dealership

So for the last year I've been tinting for a company who contracts with dealerships and does all their tinting on new cars. Me and the guy I work with were thinking of starting our own company and basically doing the same thing but actually owning it. Our company we work for makes a lot of money doing it and we want more of the action. Does anyone know the best way to approach this and where to start? And ideas or thoughts? Thanks!

It is all about the relationship.  Most of the time....it don't have nothing to do with how low you can go.  There are deal that are made behide closed door with companies and GM.  I hope you don't go try to take that account from the company you work for.....There are eyes and ears everywhere.  In this business (as a owner) we know what you are up too...sometime before you are up to it.  

 

Just to give you a head up what I have to do to get one high end account.....I brought a $6600 Rolex for the man in charge...He set me up as a vendor and we went on to grossing well over 20K a month.

Who you know goes a long way. Business ethics is important in our industry. Don't over step your boundaries.

Thanks for the advice! And of course we wouldn't try and take over any accounts that we are currently in, we are fair guys and respect the business. We just want to do more of our own thing. We have few connections here and there. At first were thinking of starting a retail shop but starting thinking if we get into a dealship we'll have constant work and like you said gross around 20k a month which is about what the company that I work for does now.

There may be a whole lot more cost to doing business than you think. As for a partnership you will want to get it set up right and legal or you will regret it when things go wrong.

You also have to keep in mind that dealerships are either a Net 30 or Net 45 when it comes to pay outs. That means you have to spend over 3k-5k before u even see their first payment.

The good thing is that dealerships do not care what type of film you use as long as it is color stable and adhesive warranty.
