I have some snow birds back for the summer and are inquiring about window tint on one skylight and about 24 square feet of office glass. Typical problem, they want the window tint advantages and benefits but do not want there windows to look tinted, Go figure. I do not stock 40%+  flat glass tint and madico only sells tint by 25ft, my regular price per square foot makes the job not worth doing at that price. Ive worked for a roll of film a hand full of times and im not interested in doing so this time, especially something ill probably never sell. Also inventory doesnt compensate if i fall off that ladder which is worth something to me.

 

Does anyone ever price on total material costs? What is the response from the customer?

In cases like that, yes.

My first suggestion would be to contact Solyx... They used to sell solar films... Not sure if they still do... But if so you might be able to order smaller amounts.

That being said...yes, I would charge for the 1/4 roll... Plus profit to do the job.

It sucks, but sometimes there isn't much you can do besides taking a loss and making the profit on the next job.

We have the same issue, I like to order a full 60" roll when it is a film we do not already stock.  Some jobs we do add extra to compensate for the full roll and others there is no way.  So in that case you take the hit on the 1st job and make it up on the future jobs.  Specialty films I would try to order right at the requirement so not sure when it would be used again.

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      Captain Obvious has two cents err senses to share: 1) The film should be removed and replaced, because it appears to have adhesive blemishes that shouldn't be there, and 2) The film should be reviewed/inspected once taken from the roll to avoid losing time and resources due to manufacturing issues. Little pieces not so much, but back glass and windscreen pieces ... definitely.

      I switched so long ago... first to KDS but they went away. NT are great though. I use a piece of white strapping material as a cutting buffer between the blade and glass. Some use a button but I didn't like the feel..

      Headlight Taillight Vinyl question... (Looking for CHROME)

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      I can't win with getting tint decent on the windshield. I had 3M on my F150 done twice and still has major defects. Recently did Stratos twice on my F350 and I see this granular spotted, texture pattern on the tint. It's super obvious in the corner here but also right in my view when driving. It's honestly hard to point out and show someone but when your driving and stuff is moving behind the windshield, it becomes more obvious. The lighting also matters. The first time I did the windshield, I had a two foot line on the windshield. Thinking it was tint, they removed the tint and it was apparently a defect in the Ford windshield. An issue between the laminated glass layers caused this big defect. So they removed the tint, I had Ford replace the windshield on a 2024 F350 but when the tint shop removed the tint, they made a bunch of micro scratches in the front windshield, probably from scrapping the glue off. I told them but I didn't care since Ford was replacing the windshield anyways. So if basically I'm trying to figure out what this texture stuff is and if I should have them replace or remove it. Replacing it might just have different issues but also afraid they will scratch the windshield.

      Need some help

      Never overlook the condition of the floor. Back when I did install, I used to mist the floor between the vehicle and the peel board. This is done between misting the window and walking toward the peel board to mist the pattern liner, peel liner and spray adhesive for install. Tacks any dust for the duration of each pattern install, so repeat each time a pattern is going to be installed.
