Trim guide for me. I get more consistent results.

I used a trim guide the first few houses when I started. It is extremely rare that I use it now. For me it is an extra tool that gets in my way. For security films, yes I use the guide on most applications.

I use a white card but I have been experimenting a little with freehand

I use the 5 way tool and the little white teflon card. ocasoinally a shoe also.

Free hand for me! Ive experimented with other techniques, but I find that I can get a better cut free hand.

for sure.... it just works a lot better in the corners. You never get creases. It does take a while to figure out but once you are able to control all the different angles, and distance of the film to glass, you can get some great tight lines. Saves a little bit of time as well.
