DynamicATL
In our situation, the brand comes up a lot which part of that is just because we promote it along with our quality. I guarantee you we get first-time customers that come to us partially because of the brand, then our service keeps them. I just went and look at my last 20 email quotes which were from this weekend. Out of 20, 7 of them brought up the specific film they were looking with CTX being 5 of them and Crystalline being 2 of them. Personally, I can never see us dropping down to a lesser known name no matter the reason. I let the brand recognition and the marketing those manufacturers do work toward our advantage. Not to mention the selling process is much easier when people already heard of the film. We do a fraction of the work selling now compared to what we had to do to make a bigger sell with Huper, Suntek, and Flexfilm. Now if we were in a smaller city or more rural area, the brand might now play as big of a role as it does now. jh812
Agree with that 100%. A brand name especially like 3m isn't going to hurt you at all and once you start advertising specifics of that brand you'll get along for it. The majority of the population has heard their name before and it's a trusted household name so shouldn't be hard to sell. If they ever get a little bit better film line to to meet my needs I would strongly consider making that switch. Llumar to me just wasn't worth the headache for what little bit of recognition they have here.
pbalentine
Customers will search for info on stuff before buying and they like to see that other people were happy with the film theyre considering. I search forums often and these names come up in order, 3m, formulaone, llumar and Suntek. I think its different in states like mine, to where theyre a so many shops and people keep hearing certain names and when they see one they cant find info on whensearched, its scares them away. I made the switch from Global to Suntek and make more now.

Llumar is huge in Eastern Canada and much smaller in western canada.
DynamicATL
I also think consumers are doing more and more research on window tint. So brand names come up a lot online, so makes them seek out the ones people are talking about. It is the same reason people are asking for Ceramic or Carbon films, they keep seeing it repeated online. They don't really know if they need it or if it is right for them. They just know 16 out of 20 people they read recommended it. Global, for example, is repeated heavily by actual tinters, but don't think that has much impact on consumers because they want to hear what other consumers are saying. The other issue is the lesser known the name is, it seems like more tinters/shops leave out the brand name from their website, etc. The guy we tinted from North Dakota that was taking a trip to Florida specifically told me one of the reasons he selected us is because most places don't even list what they carry. So for brands like Global that are not investing tons of money into getting the brand out in front of the consumer, it is up to the actual tinters/shops to promote it heavily. Eventually, consumers will see it in more places and it will draw consumers to it. Or you can still live in the 80's and promote only your shop/skill. pbalentine and blackoutauto
