  1. These actually weren't too bad.. I just did my general 'triangle' cut.... go from the point out and down a bit, and then out and up a bit.. It was a PS film so it laid down really well.
  2. Did you just straight RR or did you use a dowel or something to assist in it unrolling? I've seen people mention using that method as well.....
  3. Terribly arranged pics... but this was from yesterday... Left pane was replaced and needed to be retinted. 25% vlt. I know it's nothing special.. but I haven't been working much, so... lol
  4. You can use imgur and then use the link to post here on the forum.
  5. That's fine. Just wasn't sure if I was loosing it... more so then normal.
  6. That's true. I need to practice more with PS films... I just don't generally use them unless I'm doing a job for someone else, and I'm not about to waste their film just for practicing.
  7. Sometimes I wish I was just like 2" taller and another 2-3" on my wingspan.
  8. So I had this window to tint today. The window was 69" x 90" (W/H). I'm about 5'7"... not sure what my wingspan is... but... The film being used was a 25% film that had PS adhesive.. Wasn't my job - films I use are CDA... So this wouldn't be as big of an issue if I was using a different film. Anyway... My first thought was to put it on the window next to the one that I needed to tint... remove liner... flip it over. That would probably work fine, except my gorilla platform was the only one I had, which even if I had another, I'm not sure how I could pivot the piece of film from the one window to the other without breaking my neck, which while I like tinting, I'm not going to risk injury to do so. I got it done.. how I normally do large panes like this that are PS.... I put the piece on the floor.. .removed the liner, sprayed it down... picked it up and put it on the window. Which I know is super unprofessional... or whatever.... but it came out clean... and I got it done. I don't have this situation come up often... but when I do - I just wonder if there is a better way to do it (With a PS film) or should I just do what works for *me* and not care. If it was coming out with dust and creases... yeah... I'd stop doing it how I do it... but honestly, when I do it like that, it comes out clean. I was tempted to reverse-roll it... but it wasn't my film and I didn't feel like chancing something that might end up wasting a large piece of film. The PS wasn't horribly aggressive, but more then a CDA film.
  9. That's true too. I use sunglasses... I have a clear shield. And I dunno... maybe having a tinted shield would be problematic at nite... I've never had one so I dunno. The one I decided to get has both a clear shield and then a tinted shield you can lower when needed. Best of both worlds, IMO.
  10. I agree, but you know what's weird? And this is by no means much of anything... but there was a helmet I wanted to get... and I couldn't find a tinted shield for it. I decided to go with another helmet... not solely because of that, but that was a factor. Granted.... maybe if I searched more I could have found something..... I dunno.... Helmets, for me, are very individualized.... it's not always as easy as saying - just pick something else. The fit... the look.. I have no doubt there are people who don't care much and will pick whatever... but there were reasons I was interested in this one helmet. Like I said... there are others, so I picked another.... but still.
  11. I pull the liner off films, such a white-frost, while it's laying on the floor. Which I know I should loose my tinter's card for doing it like that.... but it works. Comes out clean... (larger pieces)
  12. Added a bookmark to my home screen on my phone. A little piece of my heart died. :( :Lol
  13. Thats what I would do... even w/o exact measurements, that should give you at least two straight edges to use. Better then none.
  14. Biggest thing, IMO, is taking super exact measurements for cutting. I don't base my charge on sizes for those - but I need the *exact* size so if I do pre-cut them, I pre-cut them exactly as I need.
  15. For those - they don't look super small... which is a good thing. In any event... depending on the size of the job, I try and pre-cut them. I'll do a rough cut from the roll... and then use my table to cut at least two of the sides of each square using a t-square I got from home depot. That gives me at least two straight edges - sometimes three if I can work it out with the factory edge from the roll. Other then that... they suck.
  16. Which is the other problem... more so if you don't do auto - is how to NOT have your marketing, online at least, not go to people looking for auto tint. If someone could figure that out.....
  17. I'm not sure there are any answers to your questions. I only do commercial & residential, and I prefer residential out of the two. But, I have friends that do all three, but prefer auto. Others prefer commercial. Each have their advantages... The market you work in is going to impact your focus greatly. IMO
  18. True... as with all films. It's in Jersey.. so our winters are super freeze thaw cycle. All four edges were sealed.. I don't recall specifically if there is an overhang. I keep meaning to actually stop by the place to see how it looks up close... drive-by it looks fine. Which it's been over a year, so I'm fine with what I gave them. The situation was that they had installed a wall behind a couple windows.. had another company install the wrong film internally to block the studs and stuff... but you could still see them. So... external was the only choice. I contacted solyx for their advice.. and was given a choice of films. (different concerns absolutely - they want to sell something - I want a happy client - totally different goals) Maybe this week I'll make a point to actually stop by. The contractor hasn't contacted me... which I assume means the client hasn't contacted him... but I'm more curious then anything else. 95% of my jobs are no where near me... this one happened to be right down the road from where I live and that I drive by several times a week. Even though I only gave them a 1 yr warr, I still want it to last much longer if possible.
  19. What are your thoughts on like... Solyx Cool Grey.. I installed that externally... sealed edges. They said it would be ok - I don't recall the lifespan they said it *should* have - but the client didn't really care. (My paperwork gave them a 1 yr warr) I drive by the place all the time... still looks good but it's only been a yr and a half.
  20. I would be very, very surprised if a cop would be able to even determine that light of film by sight... driving by someone or even at a stop. I had MAC6000 on my truck... and never had any issues. Granted, every area will be different.... but the cops in my town, last time I was in court, really seemed to be tint-ticket crazy.
  21. Tonight's the last time to get posts in... What I wanted to do didn't work out... just another t-shirt, so I might do that myself later... anyway, I'm throwing in a $75 gift cert to 44tools.
