If you go up there, to Angel Fire, take the "high road" to Taos. It's only about a 1/2 hour longer, and a MUCH prettier drive. The beginner runs are wide there, and not too steep, it's not an intimidating place, you'll handle it. They have some tough stuff, but the mountain is set up well for a novice, not easy to screw up and get in over your head there.
