Hello all. I own a 2003 Ford Ranger Edge and I am having a lot of trouble finding out what the factory tint % is on my rear sliding window. Does anyone know what the % is? Thanks for your time guys.

It's probably right around 20% visible light transmittance.

:bingo ...however it doesn't mean you can necessarily have the same on the 2 fronts ..but whatever is legal in your state will still be a better match up to tie into the factory tint then just clear glass :bingo

The guy at the Tint shop told me that it was 20% but he only took a quick look at it from a ways away so I wasn't sure if I should believe him. I originally thought it was around 50% because it's so light but then again, with all the other windows not tinted, it probably makes it seem lighter and that's what he says. Any other ideas are appreciated, thanks for the input.

I just took at look at the information on the tinted window. It said the following:

Carlite AS-3

DOT-18 26M512

So maybe someone can put that into english? :bingo

And yes I have been searching Google for 20 minutes and all I have found was the following but still I am not sure if it is "Solar Tint" or "Privacy Tint".

I even called the local glass installer and he can't tell me! Help!! :bingo

The only other thing I found was on the following link on page 7:

http://www.vitroamerica.info/docs/273_everything.pdf

2-What is the difference between AS-1, AS-2 and AS-3 glasses codes?

For automotive applications, the three most common types of glass are AS-1, AS-2, and AS-3. All windshields must be marked wit the AS-1 code which is on laminated glass having light transmission greater than 70%. All tempered glass that has light transmission above 70% is marked with an AS-2 code. All glass, laminated or tempered, that has less then 70% light transmission will have an AS-3 Code.

So it's less than 70%, there are many numbers below 70% :bingo

Now I am going to shut up and wait for replies. I swear. :bingo

Your putting too much thought into it, let's keep it simple..go to a local ,experienced tinter and ask for your 2 front drs to look good and be legal and you should be happy like 99.9% of the customers that do this :bingo
