Smoking ban?

Recommended Posts

So who is next to have rights taken away ?

The overweight, probably.

After all, when I fly, I pay for 1 seat.

If the person sitting next to me takes up all of their seat and half of mine, I'm sorry, but you did not pay for 1-1/2 seats, and you are infringing on my right to have the space I paid for. You should have to pay for 2 seats, or pay for 1/2 my ticket since you are using 1/2 of my space.

Local talk shows have mentioned Airlines charging folks by weight for a Plane Ticket, which makes sense.

Which plane would burn less fuel ?

A Plane loaded with Race Horse Jockeys, or a Plane full of NFL Players ?

After all, if I am shipping 4 Bowling Balls (roughly 63 lbs) should I get the same rate as a person shipping 4 feather pillows from and to the same city, should we pay the same price for our shipments ?

You see where this is going, the Overweight are next to be taxed, not just on the food, but increased prices on Plane Bus, Train, and Public Transportation, along with probably more for Auto Registration (cars carrying more weight get worse mileage)

Going to be interesting to see the non-smoking overweight folks kicking and screaming as they are penalized.

The only one of your examples that should be regulated by the government is public transportation paid for by tax dollars. All the others are private companies and have to weigh whether the extra money made by charging for extra body size or weight against the loss of money from people that refuse to use said company due to their proported discrimination against obese persons. I think Southwest Airlines has actually considered trying something like this.

It was hard to come up with these links b/c there are so many people who truly believe that second hand is worse than first hand. Anyway, I cannot say whether or not second hand is bad or not, I just believe that its all a crock. I think its time to bring the study up to date, although Im sure it will be the same horse hockey.

My original point is that non-smokers dont have to be in the same place as a smoker, but yet they cry about it. If the non-smokers would stay away from the smokers there would be nothing to complain about. Its all about choice and personal responsibility.

Good points you made.

Though, should a person shipping an empty suitcase from New York to Los Angeles pay the same as a person who is shipping a suitcase stuffed full of clothes ?

That's up to the carrier company and the government should have no say if a company wants to do that. We gotta stop looking to government to make companies change, unless we get into a monopoly that is screwing there customers because there is no competition. There is where we get into a gray area. This is also the main reason why government should run and have as little power as possible. Government does not need to turn a profit therefor can have all kinds of waste and mistakes without the worry of going out of "business"

I am not really that passionate about this topic to go any further. I made my points clear

I agree with you that tobacco is bad for you in any form first or second hand. But just walking through a crowd of smokers every once in awhile or even if you walk through it everyday it is not going to give you cancer. People who have got cancer from second hand smoke have been breathing it in for prolonged periods of time mainly their work place. Pretty much all other places that you would get prolonged exposure are places you have chosen to be. If it is a smell problem then hell there are a lot of smells I would rather not take in on a day to day basis, I am not gonna go around pushing for laws to prohibit people from farting in public areas. If you do not want to go into a business that allows smoke to just permeate the air then don't patronize that business.

and here is the link to the Surgeon Generals report from that...secondhand smoke

Sure, pay me millions of dollars by the politicians and I write up anything you want as well. :spit

I will go outside to smoke...I dont have a problem with that. I know my habit is disgusting. Just dont infringe upon what I choose to do with my health. I punish myself by smoking and now the govt punishes me more by taxing more...its none of their fuccing business! I will quit at some point, but for those who have never smoked, you have no idea what kind of mind game comes into play while quitting. Let me smoke when I want to, and dont come near me if you dont want to smell or inhale it. Its that simple.

Again, in a presumably free country with a supposed free market, it is not your choice or the government's choice, no matter how many non-smokers there are compared to smokers, if I want to allow smoking in my business.
