picky customers who expect "perfection"

I'm sure this topic has come up here before but after reading some of the Horror Stories forum-I just wanted to get some input of how you guys deal with this

first of all-I have never in my close to 20 years of tinting seen a perfect tint job-I have never done one nor have I ever seen one. I've seen great and I feel I've done great jobs-but never perfect

so-I have made it a habit of explaining the process to all my customers and pointing out the small imperfections(ie: dust, dot matrix) that may occur in the job before I even take the car in.

also-if I feel that they are going to be a PITA, I just pass on the job

in the past I have had up to 3 guys working with me in my shop-when the last one finally left-I decided that I would remain a 1 man show and just do 20-25 appts per week. this allows me to pick and choose what I want to do and I don't have to worry about another guys shoddy work coming back for me to fix it(only my own shoddy work-LOL)

so-how do you guys deal with this??

BOB

That I don't agree with(Dust) why was there dust in your install???,LLumar, solar guard etc don't ship dust in the film so why's it showing on the car of that install

I just had a problem with this last week on one of my cars another shop did ,said it was because the car was old(98) then I find a black magic marker used because the film was cut to short too

In my topic about layers I updated it

I guess you can put me into the 1% of people,if I'm paying top dollar I want tip top work

Dot Matrix is one thing but when I see Dirt and black marker that's not right

so your work is 100% flawless mr. 1 yr experience :bingo

I find that my prices keep the nit pickers away...when I was a bit cheaper I had more problems....

and of course there is the "give me a discount" people that will pick you apart.... I never give a discount just for no reason. Bring me 2 cars at once and get 10% off....

when I mention "dust" I am talking about any small contamination that may occur in the install which I am sure most people here understand

I take my work seriously but I am also realistic

recently I saw a post by a shop owner or worker(not sure which he was) that said he hasn't had a comeback for 10 years for any fault on his work-if this is true, then congrats to you. I for one am not perfect and have had my share of comebacks. I have fixed what I can and if I felt the job was done correctly and they were too picky-I explained to them the situation and have sent them on their way. my customer base has been built and I am not worried about losing a customer who is unrealistic.

like most of you guys-I like to inspect other work all the time-when I'm in a parking lot or a car show, I like to check out tint jobs and see what other people have done. in all my time doing this I have never found a completely flawless job but I have found awesome jobs-and I'm not afraid to admit that some were better than what I can do-I am not the best, I don't claim to be, and I don't think I ever will be. but I have made a living doing this for close to 20 years and I always have work.

yesterday I did a little experiment after I made this post and made 8 calls to tinters around the country. just randomly looked them up on the internet. I pretended to be a picky customer that has had work done before but wasn't satisfied because of very small pinpoint dots I may have found in the windows. I told the tinter that the jobs looked great but when I got up really close and inspected very meticulously I was able to pick out some small stuff here and there. I told them I was not satisfied and was looking for someone who can do it completely perfectly. not one wanted to deal with me. what does that tell you?

I will get of my soapbox for now and see what you guys have to say-tyvm

First off "Dust" is spelled with a lower case d....not perfect.. don't expect perfect.. The tint is not always perfect ..If you could control all conditions and

and you yourself can install without one speck of dust every job..(The older the car the harder it is to keep it clean..Experience if you had it..) well then you have a new business..and should be training and making more money then tinting..

My 2 cents!

I never have said my work is Perfect(just starting out)

Myself being a customer for many years sending customers cars for tint and my own car has dirt particles and magic market used is a big deal

I would expect good work
