is there a thread of plotter friendly films? if not can we make one?

Recommended Posts

As more days go by I am learning about getting the plotter to run smoothly. One thing I think would be nice is some info on films that run well through the cutter. If there is a thread on this can someone direct me, if not, can we start one?

You can run just about anything, if you are having issues to the point of wanting to switch a different film in I'd look into how the plotter is setup/adjusted first.

Films with more static can be problematic but a tinsel strip across the back helps that a ton.

Ive just had about 5 different types and brands of film go through the plotter and noticed some seem to work better than others. Onyx on 2 of the rolls I got was way too much static, even with the static strip it was binding up all over the place. Charcool on the other hand cuts beautifully. Just thought it might be a decent reference as to what films have a lot of static or are hard to get dialed in. I know I have a lot to learn, but it does seem like some cut like butter while others put up a fight.

Different films require a different setup on the plotter in terms of blade depth and possibly force. Some films have thick liners but thin film...like Wincos. I can cut Charcool and Wincos w/o any plotter adjustments only b/c the liner on the Wincos is SO thick. When I cut CharCOAL, I have to change either the force or blade depth b/c it will cut right through the film. If I were you, I would have a set of blade holders with blades, labeled for different films. It will cost you some money to have multiple holders and blades, but at least the guess work is taken out of the equation.

As far as static, I would try to unroll the film on the back of the plotter before it feeds through. This may help allieviate some of the static.

I will give those a try, my static issues were more on the front of the cutter, I know I have a lot to learn about making this efficient. The blade holder idea is great, I was actually looking for somewhere to buy the 25* blades that it comes with and a new cut strip, maybe I can just buy it all, any suggesztion on a good place to buy them. I see a lot of 45* and 60* blades but not the 25*

I run Llumar and Suntek through on the same setting's all the time with no problems, but they are all 2mil. I had a problem with ASWF their film was wound way too tight and had an abundance of static. Johnson's also went through well, just a sample roll. I use just a 45* blade I have dialed in, works tons better then the "window film blade", IMO.

I got cut strips. why you want 25* blades?
