a question for the guys that have been installing since 1985

What do you think the average tint job was around the nation in 1985 for a 4door car? $----$---?

Now 25 years later what is the average price for the same with a big mannys average line film? $----$---?

What doesnt make any since is that as the cost of our film keeps going up due to metal and oil is always going up and some tinters prices have stayed the same.

The price of milk,gas,beer,cigarettes has gone up so why havent tint prices? Can you get a plumber to come to your house for 2-3hrs for $150 bucks? Not likely

As an indusrty whole we have to educate the consumer that tint has "value" and not just some cheap upgrade to a car

Agreed on that post F1. We went up $20 over about a five year period, and where we messed up was we did it all at once. Customers raised hell about it. what is $20 ? I spend it on damn near nothing at the local gas station, haha. But for some they act like its the end of the world and we are ripping them off. Crazy. In 85, the shop I am at was charging $--- for a 4 door. We are at $--- for a 4 door now.

Yeah Dink unfortunately the market I am in is really saturated with good shops, and many piss poor shops . So its about the highest price you are gonna get here for a 4-door color stable film here.

we have a truck acc. shop here that charges just crazy prices on things and there is one more shop that does just auto and commercial tint. if i could get goin steady with prices like you charge i would prolly do good.

when they are barely over the 200 mark and you put your prices rite under the 200 mark it sounds like a lot less but its not. im sure if i started getting good business they would go down also but these guys at the truck acc. shop do not do quality work for the price they charge IMO

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      Captain Obvious has two cents err senses to share: 1) The film should be removed and replaced, because it appears to have adhesive blemishes that shouldn't be there, and 2) The film should be reviewed/inspected once taken from the roll to avoid losing time and resources due to manufacturing issues. Little pieces not so much, but back glass and windscreen pieces ... definitely.

      I switched so long ago... first to KDS but they went away. NT are great though. I use a piece of white strapping material as a cutting buffer between the blade and glass. Some use a button but I didn't like the feel..

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      I can't win with getting tint decent on the windshield. I had 3M on my F150 done twice and still has major defects. Recently did Stratos twice on my F350 and I see this granular spotted, texture pattern on the tint. It's super obvious in the corner here but also right in my view when driving. It's honestly hard to point out and show someone but when your driving and stuff is moving behind the windshield, it becomes more obvious. The lighting also matters. The first time I did the windshield, I had a two foot line on the windshield. Thinking it was tint, they removed the tint and it was apparently a defect in the Ford windshield. An issue between the laminated glass layers caused this big defect. So they removed the tint, I had Ford replace the windshield on a 2024 F350 but when the tint shop removed the tint, they made a bunch of micro scratches in the front windshield, probably from scrapping the glue off. I told them but I didn't care since Ford was replacing the windshield anyways. So if basically I'm trying to figure out what this texture stuff is and if I should have them replace or remove it. Replacing it might just have different issues but also afraid they will scratch the windshield.

      Need some help

      Never overlook the condition of the floor. Back when I did install, I used to mist the floor between the vehicle and the peel board. This is done between misting the window and walking toward the peel board to mist the pattern liner, peel liner and spray adhesive for install. Tacks any dust for the duration of each pattern install, so repeat each time a pattern is going to be installed.
