Hey guys, now I know it's really not ideal to be tinting cars outside but I no longer have a unit 'money issues'.

90% of the time it comes out looking great but on the odd occasion it doesn't...

I was just wondering for those of you out there that tint mobile and outside if you have any useful tips to minimize contamination.....

Like I said I know its not ideal but its got to do for now....!

Im mobile and will not tint a vehicle unless its in a garage. I've tinted out in the open and in carports and the installation is just not as clean. IMO, tinting out in the open shows your just concered with getting someones money, rather than getting a quality installation.

A quality installation is the priority for me, I wouldn't take the customers money If i wasn't happy with the installation myself. If the costumer has a garage I use it but sometimes I find myself without cover and out doors is the only option.... Im just looking for some advice from those who tint outside regularly and do get decent outcomes...

I would make sure that not only the glass is clean, but the surrounding areas around it. It seems that cars that are completley covered in dust and dirt are much harder to get clean. So I always clean about 5 inches or so around the glass.

One other thing, especially for front roll ups. When you stick the film for peeling, make sure that the "tall" side of the pattern towards the rear, is about an 1/8" or so away from the outside molding. This will greatly prevent getting contamination along the tall side edge of the film.

you can be smart and go to your customers home and us there garage and tint ..... and never have to tint outside again ...... if i have to go mobile i always ask if they have a garage 80% of the poeple do. but a few don't but they have friends and family that do .....

For the times when a garage isn't an option, spray both sides of the film before you peel . It will knock down the static electricity and you will already have the other side ready to squeege.

The quicker you can get the film on the glass the better.

Not a bad idea, anything to knock down the dust. The first shop I worked at was enclosed on 3 sides and had a canopy overhead , we turned out about 15 cars a day . As long as the wind did'nt pick up and we hosed the drive down they came out fine. Dust is the enemy

Pretty harsh criticism against a fellow tinter. We all start somewhere and try to better ourselves ... I have had some better installs out in the open than in a clients garage , we all know there are so many variables when it comes to the fine art of tinting that the only given is "Try for perfection" thats the best one can do.

I have yet to find the man, however exalted his station, who did not do better work and put forth greater effort under a spirit of approval than under a spirit of criticism.

      Automotive Tint Comparison

      Steer clear of Black Armour, Suntek, ASWF. The others are good choices if you are in Australia. Check out the reviews of the installer too. It’s not just the materials that have to be proper. Never go for the cheapest!!!

      Residential Film without blue hue?

      Hey guys I am in the process of having window film installed in my home but have a question about which brand I should go with. Hoping yall can help me out. I have a room that faces a busy street and as a result my blinds pretty much always stay closed. I love having natural daylight but not so much people being able to see what i'm doing in my room/all my expensive equipment. I used to work in the window film industry as a helper/installer/salesman when I was in highschool and we did a lot residential/commercial work. The specific brand of film we used always left a certain blue and cool appearance. Is there any brand of residential film that does not have this effect? I mainly just cannot stand having blue light amplified and am looking for a film that has a neutral shade to it or even a warm/yellow hue. I have single pane windows and I do not necessarily care about heat rejection but if I have to pay more for a ceramic film rather than a dual reflective or a standard film I am willing to if that helps solve the issue. Again, any help is really appreciated with this there are so many new window film brands out there and it really is cool to see how far the industry has come.

      Automotive Tint Comparison

      LLumar, 3M and Solargard have in the industry as far back as the genesis of window film mid-1960's). Solargard is the younger of the three and all others came to play in the last 20 or so years. I've had all three on my vehicles over the years and my current is 3M Crystalline on my Jeep since 2015. It still has stable color, scratch coat is holding strong and impeccable adhesive clarity. Never been garaged. My choice toady would be 3M or LLumar.

      Hook up with Glassy Business and get all the ins and outs of pro vs DIY with window film. That company goes back way before my retirement in 2015. I want to believe they are/were a Vista Film dealer and I cannot remember the owner's name. Peace out.

      Once more thank you, you are the best I been looking at the specs for the products you mention and info into tinting a window. I recently did wrap my wife's car and it turn out really nice, for what I have been seeing tinting a window is similar and I am tempted to do it myself. With that said I can't find any place to buy the products you mention, I found quite a few films in Amazon but they seem sketchy. There is other web sites selling films but the ones you mention I can’t locate, anyhow is there any place where I can buy this products?

      Forgot to mention; if your house is under HOA, you may have to check in with them. Some, eh hem, many seemingly shy away from having a reflective look to the glass. A dual reflective with a visible light transmission of 35% (ex: NV35) would likely be more palatable to HOA, but not so happy for the owner. Your position to take with them is: The higher the reflectivity of a film product, the better when dealing with desert heat. There exists a necessary (physics) compromise in every window film transaction. Can't please all parties. Glad I could help educate.
