3m prestige 40 pr

Recommended Posts

Just had a 72" roll of this stuff given to me.

Anyone ever try using it on automotive, or is it just res/com stuff.

The density stacking of Prestige is not designed for angled auto glass (It is designed for 90 degree flat glass) so even if you could get it to stick, it will not perform like Crystalline which has stacking tuned for angled auto glass.

I wouldn't use it on auto. When I was first trying my hand with auto, I was using scraps of resi/comm tint to practice cutting. PR 40 did ok with shrinking but looks purple on almost every car I put it on. Needless to say I didn't leave any on for more than a week or two. But it will stick to the glass......how long I'm not sure.

BTW, dont use it on res. either. If the film is in direct sunlight for a long period of time during hot spells it will probly break the glass. I know this bc it has done it on countless windows I have found in my research. It will absorb too much heat and break. If you can try not to use it in these types of environments.

Makes this film useless then.

Pretty much. As A 3m dealer it is a messed up situation. And after a $4000 skylight replacement (which was Ok'ed by 3m to use the film) I will NEVER use the 40 again for nething. Maybe installers need to be the ones developing the films.

:hmmm Tempered wouldn't break unless there is NSI. Was that skylight laminated glass? If so, was it clear or grey?
