Struggling with Frameless rollups

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to leave the top edge long to shave or file. The part that I struggle with is when squeegeeing out the top edge is the water runs back down between the film and glass. Then I keep trying to squeegee down and it leaves glue marks. I know I could micro edge but I love the factory look. Any tips would be appreciated.

Here are my questions:

1. When trimming film to glass how much over hang do you leave?

2. When heat shrinking do you shrink the top? then slide up and shrink bottom?

3. If I get a finger on the glass should I just leave it til the end and squeegee down?

Thanks..

I "shave" everything , (trim with olfa, hard card to lock down and file finish)in Aus. its called "custom fitting". To answer your questions

  1. as little as possible to avoid what you are talking about
  2. hardly ever shrink the top (maybe only for vw bugs), but you can - and it will prevent a lot of the spears you are getting
  3. yes

hope that helps

Just let it barely hang over the beveled edge. Not the top of the glass. :thumb

This. But as you grow accustomed to certain windows I find it easier to leave excess. Since we get a lot of Subaru Outbacks, lately I've been able to just pull the liner on a square piece, stick it and trim just fine. I wouldn't dare do that on any other frameless window that comes in because I don't know them as well. Give it some time, they will be come some of the easiest windows to do. IMO

Hope all is well down there Steve. :thumb

I know a lot of you guys shave door glasses, but I have seen to many peel back. Therefore I choose to micro edge my doors. :twocents

20 years says they don't if you do 'em right :thumb

haven't had a 1 come back because of peeling, scouts honour.

Those that do have probs with peeling are always not filing them back correctly.

I've never had a problem either and they look so good...
