Is this a botch job (paid £3,000, installed 6 weeks ago)

Recommended Posts

Company says it is immaculate.

Company I paid, guy went on holiday and outsoutced to another guy. But the other guy also didn't come, he sent a junior (I think he'd been doing it about a year). I was told I would be given pictures but he said they only have photos from outside from afar.

He rang me slightly threatening earlier saying if I make him drive down all the way here and he finds it to be good he will be furious. He was raging I said he turned up in a sports coupe, but I only said that because another professional said you're meant to use like a table or w.e. tools to cut the film. The guy did it on my carpet. The guy raging at me said that doesn't matter you can cut it on the pavement and it won't matter.

So just tell me if I'm being a "problem client" or if this is legit bad. I can't photograph the bubbles really, the camera focuses through. If this is actual bad I will request a refund, post all photos and entire chat history screenshots as a review etc.

He can be pissed all he wants, that's unacceptable at $3k. Intimidating a client, also unacceptable. I would offer him two choices, refund immediately or see him in court.

If you used a card to pay,  you could dispute and reverse the charges. I doubt you can reason with this guy. This would be my first choice before all others. Don't invite a hothead into your personal space unless you want a brawl with his ego.

Yes I thought that, the guy I did pay said that the person being sent out to come back here woule be the older brother of the guy who put it on (probably why he's pissed off, saying his little bro botched our house). I don't want people coming in 1. Being aggressive at me and my elderly relative, and 2. Doing a job for us when furious (they're hardly gonna put in care and attention).

He said this other dude is now the one I have to deal with as he is the one in charge of the install (which I was never notified). I hired him off the reviews I was told to check, which are all with the main company dude as the one who did the install. Nobody was sent a random subcontractor or w.e.

It's about 5K in dollars. 3K in pounds.

I have a local professional who will strip the film and do it fresh next Thursday. I don't want these other people coming back here trying to intimidate me or touching my house any further etc. If I get photos before and after of each window can I then take those to court?

I wouldn't mind going to court, they can't start trying to fight me in a courtroom... The guys he sent on his behalf to install sound like really horrible people tbh. If I wanted another company to do it I would have paid another company. Don't expect to pay one company then he fucks off on holiday and sends another business.

Hell....Stevie Wonder could have done a better install.  The owner must have a huge set of balls to have the arrogance to not only half-ass threaten you, but to say there's nothing wrong (I assume you sent him pictures...lots of them I hope).  This seems to be a reoccurring theme in this day and age...it's always someone else's fault/pass the blame/excuse after excuse.  It's guys like that that are ruining the tint business for everyone else.  It does mean more work for the legit businesses at times but seeing pics like this make my blood boil.

I wish the OP nothing but good luck.  I hope this doesn't cost you any more out of pocket expenses. Fingers crossed.

Well I have been quoted £600 by a professional installer who came here himself and said the job was disgusting. There are photos of him installing on city centre offices, and he showed me another lodge about 100 foot away which he had done and it was evidently superior.

On the phone I was told a lot of things about how X or Y is normal. I told them I know nothing about tinting (it's not commonly done round here except some business buildings and the one other lodge done 2 weeks ago), and I think they are using that to try to say, basically, this is normal and expected.

I don't want aggressive people in my home. I did want to confirm I am not being a difficult client, and am actually in the right. But if you all agree with the third party opinion of the local installer who viewed it in person, I will demand from him a full refund or court.

He wants the name of the local guy I'm talking to about it and fixing it etc. I haven't told him yet, but he was saying obv the other guy must be shit and doesn't know the trade and "bet he won't call him" to repeat what he said, because it's clearly an acceptable job.

I will name the company shortly if things aren't resolved, and also the other guy (no idea what business the other guy is from, apparently they do jobs for each other often)... It's not the fault of the poor guy who did this. He was a beginner, younger than me and I'm not 30 yet. He tried his best probably... Fact is nobody could be bothered to come out to me but the guy wanted the cash anyway, so I've ended up being sent a poor junior who obv doesn't have the skills yet to be doing entire properties solo without supervision...
