  1. Hey everyone, I've got roughly 52 PPF videos on YouTube that go over anything from, tools needed to install PPF, PPF install basics, tips, techniques, to installing on difficult vehicles.

Here is a link to my channel. I put out a new video every Sunday at the minimum.  Any feedback if always greatly appreciated as well.

  2. None of those are going to go away as the PPF dries. I has already dried and when water under the PPF dries it leave air pockets in it's place. I hate to say it but you've got way to many problems with this install to fix it. We all had to learn lessons when we started installing PPF. This is a though lesson but I'd be pulling that PPF off and starting over. The last picture has so much dirt under the PPF that it's not salvageable. I have a YouTube channel dedicated to teaching installers from beginners to advanced. Feel free to take a look and you'll definitely find some helpful information. 👍

Here is a great video that goes over the whole process of installing PPF from start to finish. Feel free to check out the other videos.

  3. Thats a tough one. Sometimes I've been able to use a driver that is for a different plotter to make one of mine work. All depends on the software. This is what I did with an older version of flexisign when I had a new plotter that the program didn't have drivers for. Flexi also had so generic drivers if I remember correctly. Maybe your software does as well. Never used design art.

  4. (209) 762-3495 We're finally open! So come on in and see us. We're still working on signage and displays but were here and ready for more work. :) Here are the latest pictures of the shop. Sweet shop, I really like that flooring! I personally don't like tagging of people on social media, just posting pics of the job itself. If it's something you're going to be giving back to the customer I would just have something about leaving a review on whichever site helps you the best. :twocents

Thank you for the info. The shop floor is a leggari kit. Man..... it was a lot of prep work (and $)! But in the long run I think it'll be worth it. It sure looks good when I take pictures of completed cars on it (for the website and socail media). :)

Regarding that in particular, ours says:

(Customer Initial) I understand that California law prohibits vehicle's with window tint that allow less than 70% Visible Light Transmission (VLT) through the front-side windows to be driven on any public street or highway. I also understand that the film manufacturer will not honor any warranty for any illegally tinted windows.

I'm also in California obviously. Nothing in the law says we (as a business)  can't install it. Just that the vehicle can't be driven on public streets. I'm currently redoing our work order.

Thank you for the reply! 👍

  7. Thank you everyone for the replys! I understand about tinting window illegally.  doing it or not is a huge  dilemma in my area. Back when I was working for my uncle there was a period of about two to three years where we were not tinting front windows illegally. I watched about 40% of our business walk out the door and go to another shop because they were willing to tint the fronts illegally.

  8. Is anyone on this page willing to share their work order forms or even just the wording? As we get closer to our opening date, it one if the more important things on my list to get done. We're in California. I've been doing this for 20 years now, but not for myself. I have a pretty good idea about what fields and customer info I need. Not that I'm not open to some good ideas! :) On your work order,  how do you go about asking your customers about facebook friending, tagging and posting of their vehicle, home or business? Thank you! 👍

  9. I've found some ok information on Google but I'm wondering if anybody out there would be willing to share their work order and the text that's included with it as far as the customer agreement / release of liability part is concerned? I'm in california. I'm in the process of buying a building to open my shop in. We'll be doing tinting; automotive, residential and commercial. As well a PPF. Also does anyone have a customer waiver for tinting windows darker than what's legal or for tinting windshields (please read below if you're thinking about replying with a snarky comment about tint illegally :thanks). Thank you in advanced to anyone that is willing to share their information with me. If you would prefer not to make it public on this site please PM me and I can give you an email address or my phone number.

I know this has always been a sensitive subject on this site. I understand both sides. After 20 years in the industry I've come to understand that you can only let so many customers walk out the door because you're unwilling to tint front windows illegally before you see it largely affecting your bottom line. I also understand that there's a major liability and it only takes one lawsuit to end your business and everything you've worked so hard to build.

  10. How often do you replace your yellow squeegee? I?ve noticed that every time I replace it it glides across the glass and tint a lot easier. Even with that being the case I never seem to replace it until it starts leaving streaks across the glass. Maybe out of laziness. I?m just wondering what other tinters habits are with the yellow squeegee. I might have to change my habit and cut myself a new one more often.

  11. Also, I think I am trying too hard sometimes to speed up the drying process. I will give the glass some heat and then , if I notice a water bubble and try and push it out, some times this turns into a little visible mark as I think the glass it to warm to push the bubble over and out to the edge of the tint and it can end up as a smudge.

As far as this goes. Most of the time I find that over the next few days these white marks well dry clear. Try to push all the big water out before you do any heating. Small water bubbles are going to dry out all on there own. Just let the customer know that they may see some things that appear to be bubbles but that they will all dry out within a couple weeks. The customer will be able to see that they get smaller everyday. This is normal with every tint job. Make sure to get the BIG water bubbles out as they will leave air bubbles (very small air bubbles) as they dry. Especially in hotter weather. :thumb good luck!

  12. Sometimes at the end of a job, normally a roll down window, I will notice a little curly mark. I call them worms. I think they are small hairs trapped under the film. Is there anything that can be done with these.?? Do you heat em and give them some stick with a lil chizler?? Today I did this and in the end, I had a smudge in the adhesive?? Tint Wizard had been giving me a helping hand with this problem but I would like other input also.

Your best bet with these is to heat form the outside and then push from the top of the hair, lint, whatever to the bottom. Use a bondo card as it will be less likely to push the glue. Practice makes perfect. If it's a thick hair or it's in plain sight you might want to pull the tint back and try to pick it out. Too much heat and a push down with to much pressure is going to lead to a "glue push". That's what we call them. Once you get to that point it's a done deal. No fixing that. :thumb
