    This is the truth. You can get a car right off the transport, a bit of prep and good to go. Get another one, and it is covered in rail dust an crap. 2 hours later your just getting ready to lay film.

    At our shop we do very little vinyl wrapping. I do how ever have a couple friends that do it in our area exclusively, and that price would be very low. I do know different regions have different pricing.

    I agree here. Goes the same way when going overr what vlt to use with a custy. I keep it quick and simple. The customer always seems confident in what they chose. One of my guy's goes way to complicated with it. Takes a ton of time with the customer, going over every possible combination of vlt known to man.I find with him the customer always leaves questioning if they made the correct choice.

    When I was working on commissions back in the day, it was presented to me exactly that, they were running a 99 sale, I said cool. Average ticket at that time was 175 at 40%, I told them they can have all the specials they want but my percent is off normal shop price not the sales. That is where some shop owners start abusing the art and skill a person has developed over years of perfecting this trade.

    If General Motors told their employees they were having a big sale and cutting the assemblers hourly pay to make it happen I don’t think there would be any assembled vehicles to sell.

    Exactly! Great post. Not to toot my own horn, but I have never had issue with pay, with any of my installers. I believe it is because I install day in and day out myself. I left commission years ago and went flat rate. That way the installer could care less what I charge. They make the same regardless. I can give a buddy a hook up, or even tint a family members car for free if I choose, with out it effecting the installers pay. But it goes both ways. I can charge a ton if I want also. I have had a couple prospect experienced installers that I have phone interviewed that could not come to terms with the fact that I pay the same for ceramic as I do a NR film. The work does not change. "but you charge more so I should make more" If they can't grasp the concept then I don't think they are the right fit for my shop.Now before anyone gets mad, the ceramic we use installs they same. In fact i like installing it better. If we used a film that took longer to install I would pay more. Now that's just for pay scale. Not saying I haven't had employee issue's in other area's.:lol

    Please don't do this. All you will do is hurt your local market even more, and make your self the $79 guy. That will become your reputation. Then when you you try to up your pricing all those $79 customers you thought you had will find the other guy that is doing the same thing to you. The race to the bottom is real. Start off on a good foundation and build yourself from their. Respect your craft ,and charge what you think you are worth.

    Just not enough info. $150 a day? How many cars do you do. If you do one car ,that great, if you do 8, that sucks. 20% is on the lower end, but we have no idea how self sufficient you are.If they charge $500 per car then at 20% you can make a ton of money. To really get any kind of good feed back, it would need to come from someone in your area as it is different everywhere.

    If you get the film off and are left with nasty adhesive try spraying foamy carpet shampoo on the glue then wiping it off. A friend told me this and last week I had a removal that was one of "those " jobs... wow was really impressed!  I got all the glue off the back with defroster grids, both quarters and one door while my wife was blading the other door. Bam....120 bucks in about 8 minutes. I used a spray can of Spot Shot.

What I am getting at is, I become an approved installer, I get access to the database, I then decide not to use 3M film. What happens to my access? surely you are not saying I get to keep using it for free (no penalty) and they do not cut access (i'd consider this a major penalty)?

    Each roll of film has a code that has to be entered into the software. That code allows you to cut the amount of square feet of what ever size that roll is.

  9. I have done a hand full of these and cut around the letter. Thought I would try to get them stuck down. Took longer then I thought. Layed the film, them used a syringe in the corner of each letter to let the air escape, and pushed each letter down. Being white helped.
