Thanks  for the feedback.  He told me some cars with PPF on them did not look weird with his glasses on but then some cars with PPF on them did look weird with his glasses on??  I wasn't sure if it was a certain type of film that does this or all films in general or just films with hydrophobic top coats or what?

He said he wears his glasses all the time so if this is the case he just won't put the film on at all????   ugh.....

He also mentioned a car in a garage that had film over it that did not look weird with the glasses on but this was in the garage and not direct sunlight.  Is it a sunlight thing with the glasses on?  if there's cloud cover will it look weird?

    TIA  Josh

I would let this one walk. He will be a torn in your side.

I know now it’s weird, but he’s right! More often than not, the more expensive the car, the less they care. I can’t tell you how many jobs I’ve been so proud to put out only to have the customer in some exotic, take the keys and drive away w/out even walking around the car.

I have found this to be true also. High end exotics customer seem to be pretty happy and cool for the most part. They don't sweat the small stuff as much. I account this to them having bigger things to worry about. Also when you get to a certain level of car you really can't stretch your self to get one. Meaning they didn't put their lively hood on the line to afford it. Now when you get into the mid level stuff like vett's and M3/M5's and the such, watch out, your in for some inspector gadget stuff.:lol

  3. @PaintProtectionPro Just like social media makes people in daily life feel like their lives are somehow inferior to other from all the great stuff people post to make their lives look perfect, the same thing goes with all the install pic's and video in our industry. Although i am sure the install in this video is done well, it's a promo video for customer to be amazed. It's made to look like everything goes perfect. Doesn't show the whole story. I do everything I can to make sure our install are as good as can be.That being said we have all had installs that could have been better. Some will never admit that and say "every car they have done is perfect", but we all know that's just not true. I always wonder why do i see all these amazing install on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube all the time, but never see them in the wild? I made it a point to start to see installs from different areas and states that I thought would blow me away. At the end of the day in person they were good , some even great. But nothing really that I hadn't seen before. An install can only get so good. There is no magic that can make it better. You are still putting a film on paint.

I have been using Xpel exclusively about a year now. Going from Suntek I feel a lot more confident about edges not coming up.With Suntek I was getting issue with lot tech's blowing up edges with the pressure washers, and mirrors creeping back a few weeks down the road. Since i have been using Xpel I haven't had it happen once. Not saying you can push anything down and have it stay, you still need to be mindful about it. It was a learning curve to make the change to the Ultimate. But now with the Ultimate Plus the ease of install is a lot better.

"Piercing the corporate veil" is what my Lawyer called it. It's like they'll get you no matter what, I have very very few assets in my name, smart business ownership and asset self protection starts at home. My 2 cents on it.

:yeah and also never mix personal expenses in with your business account. If you do get an audit and you have any personal expenses mixed, the burden of proof is on you to prove whats business and whats not. If your books are clean with only business stuff, the burden of proof falls on the IRS to prove they are not. Just like Tint Slayer, just what i was told by my accountant.

Got a picky customer that I would love to see him go to another shop.  :lol  He spends money and brings vehicles, but damn he is over the top.  We tinted a vehicle for him a few weeks ago and he brings it back because of a speck of dust in the sunroof...cool, we replace it and he is good.  We just tinted another one this week and instantly say a small scratch on the tint...no problem we schedule it the next day along with booking a 3rd vehicle for him and another for his cousin.  So we replace it today and he spends 30 minutes outside inspecting it along with his friend.  He finally gets in backs the car out, so we think he is finally leaving...nope, he was positioning the car to see it in the sun better.  Another 10 minutes and then he finally leaves.  Like damn.

One of my best friends owns a European auto shop. We were talking about this last night. He has what he calls an asshole tax. When someone is hard to deal with or is just an all around dick, he doubles his price. He just looks at it as compensation for his time dealing with these types of people. If they shop him and go someplace else because of price, well, even better.I think I need to start doing this also.

Off topic, but how do you like that Xpel film? I was just on their site a few minutes ago reading about it. Was thinking of trying it out

I have realy like it. Have no real complaints about the film at all. I went from Global to this. I use Xpel Ppf also so it made it nice to order from one place. I love Global, but it is not a brand customers can do much online research on. Xpel may not have a large presence in the tint world yet, but it has a solid trusted name in PPF  so I think that can carry over into tint when customers are looking a it from a brand stand point.

We do not tint the Tesla 3 models...too much time and not worth it to us.  We do 10-20 Tesla S models monthly and they are the easiest customers to work with for us.  I think the problem with the Model 3 owners is the car is cheap, so it attracts people that want to say they own a Tesla but can't afford a nicer S/X.  This means extra picky people that want premium product for a low price.

I think you should rethink not doing the Model 3. After getting the first couple under my belt, I love the money from them now. I know you do a lot of Crystalline so I would say  just don't do them in that. If I remember correct you are also Lulu dealer? Use CTX on them. They really are not bad at all.I just ordered 60"x25' of 35% and 20% for the back glass. I am however staying away from the windshields. I do think you are spot on with the model 3 customer assessment though.

    How you liking that DAP?

The PPF patterns are second to none. The tint patterns are the best I've used also as long as they are in the last few model years. The older tint patterns are hit and miss. I believe they must have just been purchased and loaded in from another company to fill back log. The software is a bit constraint on manipulating and altering patterns.

  9. I put this here because I didn't see a DAP section in the plotter threads. When I am cutting in DAP, and say I cut some windows or PPF, then I want to cut more off the same roll that's already loaded in the plotter, if I don't hit origin the film will suck out of the back of the plotter. I know its not a plotter setting because non of my other programs do it. I called Xpel an the guy said that's just they way it is. Has anyone found away around this? I know hitting 1 button is not a big deal, but when it is forgotten it eats our cut strip. Using a DGI plotter.
