Gap or no gap?

Guest Shady

Do you completely film the side drop glass windows and file the top edge off or do you leave a small gap along the top edge?

I have proven on my own vehicles, that shaving with a blade will eventually cause the film to loosen up at the top (after a couple of years that is). Maybe I am not using the proper angle on the blade or something, but I will stick to filing or a micro-gap for customer's cars.

I know what you mean when you say that it weakens the top edge because if I use an olfa, in some extreme cases the film will crease after the window has been rolled up nearly 15 times after the tint has set. This is the reason why I do not shave any more and leave a micro gap.

I use a 6 inch contact points file.

Nicholson / Coopers tools brand , part number 921985.

I have tried other brands but these seem to give the best results.

if file cut is too fine it will clog up.

if it is too corse it will chip the window edge.

G'day Dave,

Nothing like another Aussie banana bender new to the forum. :lol

That's pretty much how it is right around OZ.....no gaps firstly demanded by the better tinters and now the entire public. :lol
