Gap or no gap?

Guest Shady

Do you completely film the side drop glass windows and file the top edge off or do you leave a small gap along the top edge?

Hey then you guys, when I learnt to tint (at cpfilms :barf ) they taught me to file along the top edge of the side/drop glass/up and down :gasp windows. I used this method myself but my employees do not. Some customers pick up on this but I am aware some professional tinters use one way or the other. How about you's?!

I answered both. It really depends on the age and condition of the car. If I am working on a nice, new car, I will file. If it's a POS, I will leave a micro-gap. If the film sticks too quickly to the glass, I am forced to file... but at least there is an alternative to trimming, which is a biotch in that location.

Like was mentioned earlier... the gap left by a good installer is difficult to see anyways. On the other hand, filing only adds about five minutes to the job on a two-door car... so I don't charge extra.
