35% Skylight film

Recommended Posts

This will be my 1st attempt on a skylight. There's only 2 at roughly 24" by 48" dual pane. I believe Johnson's make an exterior film. Anyone recommend another film? Would you install on the inside or outside? If I install exterior film will I have to seal the edges? Any info would be great.

If you can get an exterior 35 and it's easily accessed from the outside I would go that route. Always a good idea to seal the edges but I have done some without it. Mainly because they have a weep/drainage system in the frame and it could get clogged or trap debris. Something to look out for...

If the customer doesn't like the life span of exterior I would go with a silver 35 on the interior. :twocents

It's very easy to access the exterior. What kind of warranties do you offer with an exterior film?

Hanita has a great product, I did a skylight job with 6,000 sq. ft.  recently , and just finished an 8,000 sq. ft.skylight  job with Solar Gards exterior film. They both handled well and yes you will have to seal the edges for warranty purposes. You might even catch some extra cash by suggesting that by not only sealing the edges you will make sure all the mullions are sealed too if you end up doing an exterior application.
