Hi Gentlemen,

How have everyone been doing lately?

Been experiencing in the fast-paced changes in our industry since my last post, when I thought we have sufficiently evolved. We are a niche community. Very often, I will read TD in the middle of the night when I unwind after a day's work so that I know that there's a parallel universe out there with passionate souls who are the same things as me.

My best regards to everyone here and take care,

Poon

Hi Poon, doing well here, how are things in Singapore?

Hi Rick,

I come across more automotive glass with chemicals pre-coated by glass manufacturers for better heat and UV cut.

Example: http://www.agc-automotive.com/english/products/cool.html

These chemicals are coated on the internal glass surfaces and any film replacement (due to warranty or privacy) will destroy that costing like an Low-e coating on architectural surface #4 in the following diagram.

Over here the EPA has mandates for auto makers to reach certain MPG and emission levels. Those levels are scaled over the next few years to make cars even more fuel efficient. More efficient glass is being utilized so the a/c units are not working so hard, thus better mpg. The technology is only getting better and adding film will be of little real measurable help in the near future. There will always be the customer who is looking for the appearance of tinted glass, but touting IR, TSER, UV benefits etc will be nothing but "hot air"

Hi Tom, there is a damage on the glass surface in the dark photo that I enclosed. That photo was taken to reflect the damages on the glass when a tint is changed or removed. The application of these heat-reduction coatings on the interior of automotive glass, by glass manufacturers, looks set to affect our trade.
