Your welcome Whitehog!!!!! That's exactly the stuff I was wanting to see, pictures of yourselves, from a portrait, to tattoos your whole base has gotten. Anything really. In reality , the armed forces don't get enough thanks. Even if you've never seen a battle field or haven't left the states, you get my thanks for giving your name on that paper to say that if shit hits the fan, you'll fight back!!

Very few people know I served ... up until now. I enlisted in the Navy for 6 years from 1974-80 with four of those years active and the other two inactive reserve. Spent three and a half years residing on an ammo supply ship and experienced two cruise assignments to the Mediterranean Region. Honorably discharged at the rank of E-5, which is difficult to achieve in four years active. I am considered a Vietnam Era Vet, though I saw no action. I go about living my life humbly without the need to wearing my time served as a badge of honor. No decals, no bragging, no need to be recognized for doing a job I chose to do.

I served 30 months full-time in a tank battalion during my conscription years. It wasn't easy being a soldier in an active military unit and those were the M-16 days. :shoot1 Nothing to brag about, for I wasn't the fittest soldier. The best part was the bonding with my tank crew when we camouflaged and washed the armoured vehicle together.

And I spent another 10 years (1-4 weeks annually) serving in a military reserve-unit, and became a driver for reconnaissance and recovery operations when my superior realized that I could topo (navigate) better than most specialists and officers. In the course of my training, I got to visit the most serene wilderness and beautiful terrains in my country (too bad, no photography allowed).

:drive Oh well, driving was the easy part, try camouflaging your vehicle repeatedly five times within a day.......  :console

By 2015, I received my second long-service medal and ended my military obligations as a CPL.

Yes, there is no need to see real bloodshed to appreciate military service. It is all about deterrence. Espionage is all over us and our participation in military service will make hostile parties think-twice when their spies revert back to them.

There's a difference between a All-volunteer military force and conscription. Conscription allows an immediate mobilization mechanism of reserve units, to multiply the size of the armed forces, giving the country leverage against manpower losses during battle. Conscripts with proper training can also be easily regrouped for guerrilla or other warfare, which translates to higher costs for the invader. It is very effective for countries which permits gun ownership, such as US and Switzerland (held by 30-50% of the Swiss population).

Try apply these to our work. :thumb2

Here's a movie review that I read last night: Hacksaw Ridge gets 10-minute standing ovation at Venice Film Festival

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/hacksaw-ridge-gets-10-minute-standing-ovation-at-venice-film-festival-a7226336.html

Hacksaw Ridge is true-story based on Medal of Honor recipient, Desmond Thomas Doss, who saved 75 men in the Japanese Island  of Okinawa during WWII without firing a weapon.

Robin olds had something to say about who we see as heroes in our nation, something about a ww2 vet vs Michael Jackson, his speech was short and sweet but hits home really hard, he was an army air/ Air Force vet, I'll look for it, see if I can post on here, I'm technologically inept if honest so you may try and find it for yourselves, real eye opener.
