Cutting film with button

Recommended Posts

Here's a quick video that I did of cutting window film with a button. Reason for doing this is that even with stainless blades there's still a chance of scratching today's vehicles. By placing a button underneath the film you can easily eliminate any risk what so ever. I suggest finding small thin buttons as they do not lift the film as much and make for a more accurate cut.

I tried the button and didn't like the way it "felt" or glided.  I also lost them pretty quick.

I then picked up a piece of white strapping material and cut it into a 3/4" trapezoid shape.  It keeps the blade off the glass and feels much more like the actual blade on the glass.  It also can be poked with the blade tip and picked up and it "sticks" to the wet window really well.  Best part is you can cut up a bunch of pieces out of just a single film order strapping.  No worries if you lose a piece.

They do wear thin after a certain time of using the same piece but it you lose them often you will never see that.
