Graphtech FC8600-100 Cutting Problems

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I recently purchased a Graptech FC8600-100 and am having some cutting problems. I purchased the Graphtec 30 degree blade also just FYI. I am using the CORE software also.

Settings are set 13 or 14 force and depth is also set to .5mils.

When I go to cut film, it is either not enough cut or too much. On force 13, it wont cut through the clear layer at all but it wont completely cut the windows. When i go to peel the film, it reps and tears in areas where it was not completely cut. On force 14, it cuts too hard and goes through clear layer in some areas but perfect in other areas. The cut is very inconsistent and I cannot seem to find the right setting that makes a solid cut for the entire trace of a window.

Any help is much appreciated as I would love to use the plotter but I just cant right now. I wasted lots of film messing with many different settings and resetting everything.

What would the cutting strip have to do with the way it cuts windows?

Highplains gave you the right advice. The cutting strip has a great deal to do with it.

if it is only cutting some areas of the pattern and not the other, it is because the surface under the cutting blade is not level (as a plotter without the Teflon or nylon strip that should be there). Last, your cut speed should be between 20-35 and down force 12 or 25 on graphtec and 120 grams for other machines.
cheers

I would try to set it at 13 and nudge the dial on top of the blade holder clockwise just a hair followed by cutting a few wide oblongs about 2" tall. After a few rounds of that the blade might get reseated in the groove.

If the cut strip is fried I would get a new one. If it's not fried, I would get a new one as a back up to have on hand.

I bought a cutting strip based on your recommendations. When looking at it, it seems there is not even a cutting strip. I will install tomorrow and give an update.

Be aware that if you had no cutting strip or had a worn out one, you will probably have to change your pressure settings after installing a new one.  When you do, start very high and come down slowly. If you start to deep with a new strip you are just going to gouge a new cutting strip, so be careful.  :thumb

Thank you for the information. 12 doesn’t cut the pattern enough and 13 seems perfect except for a few spots that have little bibs that don’t cut through. Should I change my blade for new one? I just put a new one in 2 weeks ago but I never had a cutting strip until right now.
