If this is anything like smart tint that I installed on a commercial job, it is not an easy installation.
The smart tint I installed had to be ordered precut to the exact window size and electric wires are added to the film from the factory.  You do not cut it during install.  If you measure wrong you have to order a new piece.  This film is not  installed with water at all.  Imagine putting window film on dry and not getting any bubbles in it when installing.  When and if you get it on properly you have to wire it up to 12volts in order for it to change from clear to opaque.  There is also quite a bit of low angle has in the product.  The price for a typical commercial install is so expensive it is very hard to sell.  The project we did was roughly $160,000.00 for roughly 2000 square feet.  I have no idea how you would price a car.

I guarantee that something stupid is going on at every shop depending on the day. Always someone getting in a hurry and cutting a corner. I've seen some of the biggest shops around here take in mediocre installers in hopes of retraining them and eating damage along the way.

The batteries are my number one complaint. Anyone who's ever seen a lithium or copper mine and thinks their saving the environment is out of their mind.

Nevermind the poor bastards that are charged with getting the rare earths out of the ground and the corrupt backwards govs that rule the area where they lay.

Then we get to the recycling issues and God forbid one of those turds catch fire....my thoughts on that goes for the entire ev scam. I'll take a '97 Accord over any of them everytime.

Why would you build anything but the absolute lowest quality when you have a captive market and all this government support?

I can't wait to watch the fiasco that will unfold regarding the batteries.

I had young guy drop his teenagers Model 3 off in a corvette. He didnt like the Tesla and believed in the alternative fuel that Porsche is working. He also mentioned the battery foot print, along with the possibility of N. Korea taking out the power grid.

So check it out, we too tint a lot Tesla's, this week I think we will work on at least 35 of them.

We had a TMY front door crack on us Wednesday.

it's been a minute since we have seen a crack but we have seen this before. Nothing like the problem we had with the rear windows on the TM3's back in 2017 and 2018 but from time to time we do see bad glass.

I think it's safe to say and I believe most people that work on a lot of Tesla's will agree that the quality has gotten a lot better compared to a few years ago but I personally feel that it's important that we all pay attention because were the type of shop that takes responsibility when there's a problem and what that really means is that we write a check.

In this particular situation I feel that we probably could've avoided the glass cracking if we would've noticed how thin the inside layer of the laminated window actually was. When you compare the thickness of the inside layer of glass on this particular window compared to all the other Tesla's we had on the property at the time and also comparing it to the glass we use to replace the cracked window this happened because of the manufacturing process. This window should never have been installed on the car. If you look at the picture carefully you will see that the inside pane of glass is almost paper thin compared to all the other windows.

Heads up everybody and happy Fourth of July!!

    That's nothing.
Prior to this one I tinted a couple of small cruise ships that were bound for Tahiti.
They were still in the process of being built at the time, so as I finished each cabin, I taped clear/opaque plastic sheeting over the window so protect the film from being damaged by other tradesmen.
As it happened, the other tradies liked the view out of the windows so much that they were removing our plastic so they could see out properly.
By the time I'd finished the second ship there were that many windows that needed to be re-tinted due to scratches that I ended up virtually doing a 3rd ship worth of work, at their expense of course.
A couple of months later the ships sailed to Tahiti with numerous tradesmen on board, still finishing their work whilst trying to make the delivery deadline.
I was asked to join them to re-tint yet more cabins, but circumstances didn't allow me the time away from my shop.

Thanks Ric! Stoked to see this place is still the hub of the tint world. Have to admit I miss the business a little these days. The satisfaction of a finished tint installation, *chefs kiss*

    Sup Dudes! Long time.

My wife got a new "mom" car as we're expecting a baby in August. So a good friend and I did a paint correction, installed Ceramic Pro's 9H coating to the car, and tested out some of SolarGard's newer products.

VortexIR 35 Ceramic on the windows, XenithIR 70 Ceramic on the w/s, and sunroofs. I am happy! It's got the nice blue luxury look on the w/s and the color is great on the windows. My wife is thrilled, I'm happy and my family will be riding in style.

    Hope everyone is well,

That's a nice glass package to work on. Anytime I get a boat job it's always a fresh water wake boat shaped like an egg.

“Put the heatgun down and step away from the vehicle.” Sounds like a cop giving commands. Im going to start a Tint Policing. I’ll show up and bust you trying to dry shrink or applying films I dont approve of. I can just see the news story…”Local Tinter Tased and shackled while Dry Shrinking.”

Tempered glass only around here. Plate glass if effing dangerous.

You might be able to find an old sliding glass door for free somewhere. I find a few every year getting tossed out.

A local glass shop might have a miss order or something scratched that they cant sell out of inventory. Good people to meet anyway if you're in the tint biz.

The civic BG is the same. Seems a lot of BGs are steeper with higher decks. I now charge Sedans the same price as a full size SUV. Also, more sedans require 3rd brake light removal.
