Hello, I have been reading a lot of posts over the past few months and have learned a lot of new techniques. I used to tint approx. 15 years ago. I am starting to tint again because 3 months ago I had my 87 Grand National tinted at a local tint/stereo shop. The quality was horrible, I was able to see there fingerprint marks through the dust. C'mon really, isn't an 87 Grand national one of the easiest cars to tint? So I decided to start tinting again, the right way. I have a lot of respect for this skill based profession because I have seen many of men that cannot do this job.

Back when I was tinting you never dare use the heat gun directly on tint. Heat shrinking is a new tech. to me, hopefully practice will make perfect. We will see.

no im down by st louis, but my gf's parents are up near zion, i was just up there doing a few cars. coming back thanksgiving time i think for more cars.

actually was at old navy in gurnee yesterday.

i could stop by sometime, see whats up. i have about 30 cars under my belt

Harrypo53 - I was not busting your chops. Since I have just restarted tinting, I only have about 20 car under my belt. When I figure this forum out I will send you a pm with my cell# and we can meet up.

Booms - Im surprised that you are busting hopo's chops, aren't you a Moderator? We all have to start somewhere, I guarantee that no-one has started into this business with more than 100 cars under there belt. Im not saying, Im just saying!!! He is also half our age. I'm not trying to get off to a bad start here, I find this forum very helpful but you guys do come down hard on new guys.

      What is an established commercial/residential business worth?

      Selling or buying a small business has numerous variables. Does the business own real estate ? Is it part o& the sale ? Is the owner staying on after the sale to help the new owner for any length o& time ? Does the business have any contracts in Que that will expedite the ROI ? Is there any inventory going with the sale ? Trade tools ? Web presence ? Does the business have employees that will stay on under new ownership ? .. Does the business have any agreement with any particular brand to offer their top tier materials ? IE Vista, Panorama, Etc. .. lots and lots of variables. But as a baseline, it’s not unreasonable for a business to be valued at 3-5x EBITDA. There are companies who can help evaluate the value of any business.

      Dry shrink is akin to moving from the horse and buggy age to the age of automobiles; not only innovative, but you find yourself getting to your destination quicker. Dry shrink is also less damaging to the chemical properties of the film itself. And like Bham has pointed out in different words, work smart not harder. TD mentioned the wet check after dry shrinking, which is a technique used by many in the early stages of learning to dry shrink. Plenty of demos on Youtube.

      You REALLY need to learn to dry shrink. That type of finger would not happen and would be way easier to manipulate before failure. It's not about the time you wait for the prep surface to dry, it is about the ease of shrinking difficult windows without them being difficult. Dry shrinking makes our work so much easier. Your quality of installs will go way up and time spent on tough back glasses or windshields will go way down. The stress of doing a difficult shrink is way less once you learn the ropes of dry shrinking. If you want to improve your craft and get better at installs you are probably gonna have to learn to dry shrink sooner or later.

      So theres no way to get around it by wet shrinking it? I havent touched dry shrinking once and dont really have the time to way for the dryer sheets to dry could i just use water as a grip methood?

      Wet shrinking has advantages but it also has limitations. I'd learn a good dry shrink technique, then follow up with a wet check. You can get a lot more shrink into a piece doing it dry with a lot less stress on the film.

      hey everyone today i was tinting a BMW front windshield i don't remember which model. Anyways while shrinking fingers closer to the side edge it seems like it will end up creasing while i follow the wet shrinking process.       High speed material feed

      The Graphtech plotters are all about the same from 7000 to 8600. I doubt that the machine was the problem If changing software fixed the issue.

      Update to this.... We were using a Graphtec FC7000-100 plotter and the Digi Cut software and the machine wouldn't work correctly. We contacted Digi and they did a live modification on our software which solved the issue. Strange thing, the plotter would still never cut through the pattern consistently. (parts would cut totally through and parts would not cut even through the film) We switched to Core and instantly everything cut 100% consistent and without need for software modification. Perhaps if we had a newer plotter than the FC7000 perhaps the Digi would work as expected ??? Dunno
