Hello Tintaholics,

 

After reading many threads it's clear that a member introduction post is the proper etiquette before contributing to the forum, so I'd like to introduce myself and give a brief background of where I am, what we stand for, and what my background is.

 

My name is Kevin, owner of Ultra Tint based on the Gold Coast. (AUST) I've been involved in the window film industry now for 17 years, starting out as a trainee flatglass installer and moving on to become an auto installer as well a few years after that. I was trained in the old-school methods of business, where quality matters and customer service is everything.  After working for and managing a couple of tint businesses for many years, the opportunity came up to take ownership of UT about 8 years ago and I haven't looked back.

 

Without going into brands or manufacturers, we are certified installers for this, and accredited providers for that, as well as being contracted several times a year as a national trainer for both flatglass and auto. We're also long standing members of WFAANZ. Not too sure on the rules regarding self promotion, so anyone interested in knowing a bit more about us can just use our business name followed by dot com dot au.  

 

Otherwise, some of you I already know; many of you I don't. But I look forward to getting to know you all, and laughing and learning along the way.

Welcome aboard Kevin.

Good to have another Queenslander around coming into State of Origin time.

Plenty of chuckles to be had here and plenty of good info as well.

No rules here about self promotion that I know of...some do it shamelessly.

I think as the story goes Devil, UT up here was started many years ago by a previous owner of UT down there...

I stood to be corrected UT....my mate HAD the UT name down here for years and successfully traded under that but someone else must have had it elsewhere and he could no longer use it.

So he came up with the name Ultrashade and that's what is his go now.

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      Captain Obvious has two cents err senses to share: 1) The film should be removed and replaced, because it appears to have adhesive blemishes that shouldn't be there, and 2) The film should be reviewed/inspected once taken from the roll to avoid losing time and resources due to manufacturing issues. Little pieces not so much, but back glass and windscreen pieces ... definitely.

      I switched so long ago... first to KDS but they went away. NT are great though. I use a piece of white strapping material as a cutting buffer between the blade and glass. Some use a button but I didn't like the feel..

      Headlight Taillight Vinyl question... (Looking for CHROME)

      Stratos 70 on windshield, what is this?

      I can't win with getting tint decent on the windshield. I had 3M on my F150 done twice and still has major defects. Recently did Stratos twice on my F350 and I see this granular spotted, texture pattern on the tint. It's super obvious in the corner here but also right in my view when driving. It's honestly hard to point out and show someone but when your driving and stuff is moving behind the windshield, it becomes more obvious. The lighting also matters. The first time I did the windshield, I had a two foot line on the windshield. Thinking it was tint, they removed the tint and it was apparently a defect in the Ford windshield. An issue between the laminated glass layers caused this big defect. So they removed the tint, I had Ford replace the windshield on a 2024 F350 but when the tint shop removed the tint, they made a bunch of micro scratches in the front windshield, probably from scrapping the glue off. I told them but I didn't care since Ford was replacing the windshield anyways. So if basically I'm trying to figure out what this texture stuff is and if I should have them replace or remove it. Replacing it might just have different issues but also afraid they will scratch the windshield.

      Need some help

      Never overlook the condition of the floor. Back when I did install, I used to mist the floor between the vehicle and the peel board. This is done between misting the window and walking toward the peel board to mist the pattern liner, peel liner and spray adhesive for install. Tacks any dust for the duration of each pattern install, so repeat each time a pattern is going to be installed.
