is this acceptable?

Recommended Posts

My car is a 2017 Mazda CX9 and i notice one of the side have a corner that is messed up vs the otherside that looks clean.

I took it back to the shop and he said it the way the car curve and they he check the otherside which is good, says they need to slice it open to install it better.  I was thinking to myself then why didn't you do it on this side.

He said he would cut a piece out and do some patch work on it.  but is that standard practice or they should be redoing it?

here is a close up now, notice that the line is not straight and therefore small part of the bumper is not protected.  my guess is it wouldn't

stick and they cut a chunk of it off.  on the other side they did it properly after experiencing with this side.

ask the guy about it and he said the way the car is curved they had to do it this way, but clearly it not the car since they able to install it properly on the other side.  he said he can cut something up to patch it up.

my question is would that be acceptable?  if i depend him to redo it, will it mess up my paint?   this is suntek ppf.

hmm ya i wonder if he was using a plotted kit or freehanding it. I know DAP programs from Xpel have a little relief in the kit for that corner, but that looks a little ugly to me.

I can confirm it a kit.  He had to order the full hood ppf.

While it doesn't look great, I'm going to bet that from a couple feet away it's almost unnoticeable.  I'm not sure I would have him re-do an entire bumper over a small piece like that, especially if the rest of it looks great.
