not only that but I have other responsibilities in life outside of work that I have to take care of which necessitates taking a lunch. Most days I take an hour, sometimes less or when I'm slammed not at all.

We do not have official lunch breaks...we order food typically around 1-2pm.  Majority of the time the company pays for it unless someone wants something other than what everyone ordered.  When the food comes, people can eat when they want.  If we have no cars, I do not mind people running errands as long as we know how long it will be, but typically be limited to 30 minutes max.  All of our team has Sunday off along with one day off during the week.  So the idea is if you have official things that need to be done during the week, do it during that off day.  So not a lot of need to run errands during a work shift.
