Tintguy1980 reacted to GWF Texas in bullet resistant
Companies have used bullet "resistant" to misrepresent what type of protection can be gained.  Like others have advised; be very, very careful.

Some companies have the resistance tested where they do the following:
    -Use extra thick glass
-Add layers to both sides of the glass
    -Add multiple layers of film
-Add multiple layers on both sides of the glass.

And yes, if you add 3 layers of 14 mil to both sides of the glass, you can get some results that look good.  But that is not realistic in 99% of the situations.

Be sure to ask the manny if they'll stand behind their product without the use of kevlar patched on the glass during live testing.

Simply too many variables and risks involved in such an endeavor; how far away from the glass, at what angle, what caliber of ballistics, how thick is the film used, how many layers of thick film, glass thickness, tempered or laminated. I do know it has been tested with a 9mm at an undisclosed location in VA by undisclosed group of people who, along with me, will never divulge the results, what film was used, the number of layers tested, distance or angle.

Sorry... variables can wipe away anything near a success.

Go down to your nearest boat shop and buy some rope that is good at absorbing water. Get different thicknesses at or above 6-feet long. Use them to tuck into the bottom of the windshield with ends curving out for easy removal when done.

None... you get to be 60+ you bask in the silence and the ability to still hear after all those years of head-banging metal and rock and roll.

Perfect justification for meter use over the formula, eyeballing or guessing.

The formula doesn't account for how a film's color (spectrum) impacts results.

Back when NC passed their net 35 law I was a film sales rep for the state and it was noted how Centaur (PT) auto film would squeak by light meter devices while ATR failed even if they both had the same VLT going on the same VLT glass. Centaur was a more bluish looking smoked film.

Dealer in Burlington metered film from the box and marked the metered VLT on it label. He would have a minimum of five separate boxes of film of the same film product all with various VLTs. He would determine which to use by metering the glass, picking a sample thought to pass and place a small sample to the glass to gain a net reading. If it was off, he would look to another roll with either higher or lower VLT needed to pass.

All variables are not covered though, because you don't know battery charge strength of your meter compared to the one at the inspection station. And even then it has to be the same type meter with the same calibration variance confirmed.

Well I am not installing film any longer but, I did replace our dining area candelabra today that pulled a hundred and fifty watts for lighting. This stylish pendant light pull a smidgen over 25 watts (all inclusive).

Do you guys do keyword research or are you just guessing? Go to Google ad words, find key words, type in what you "think" are good key words & it will show you how many times a month that word or term is searched.

I think maybe more like "window tinting" and then city. Maybe even "window tints" if they are searching from the hood.

As far as for a "gasket tool" the red devil doesn't work to well.

BUT, the red devil is GREAT for what I call, chasing/leading the tuck.   I LOVE my red devil. I keep about 4 on hand at all times just so there is always one near by.  I use the red devil and silver platinum triangle to move the bottom sweep out of the way for tucking the film.   I usually have one in one hand using it to lead the tuck while I feed the film with the other.  Both are great for corners also.

Tintguy1980 reacted to Glass Tinting Supplies in Solar FX buyer beware.
    Hey Showus..
I can't see how this is any fault of Shawn or SolarFX...
If the buyer needs to be aware of anything, it is to understand what the warranty does and doesn't cover.
If the warranty says that it doesn't cover fading, then it doesn't cover fading... End of story.

I can see that SolarFX (Like anyone in the market place) needs an economically priced entry level film to offer installers out there that just want cheapest price.

It's funny how the old saying seems to be a rule that shows true generation after generation... "You pay for what you get."

If something is over priced, it will eventually come down... If something is underpriced, it will always go up in price. There will always be a balance in the end, and a choice to make.

My choice is always use the best I can.. Whilst still representing value for money.
If you are not happy with what you are using, vote with your feet.
    Hope all ends well.

I gotta give you a hand clap on this one!

SOrry about your misfortune, but as stated above, take the time and work through the proper channels.. Alot of people have Shawns phone # and facebook name but I imagine its just like returning something at wal mart so to speak.  Go to the customer service and not the cash register although the cash register can take care of the problem...

I also understand the thought in your head of how many cars you have tinted that could possibly be coming back... But bottom line you have a game plan to think about here.  Let SolarFX communicate back to you, meanwhile figure out what you can do that you are in control of.

Reboxers = a tinter who buys cheap film and puts it in a more expensive film name box.
Coaters & Laminators (like Johnson, ASWF, XMC films) = converters
Scorpion, Aegis, Advantage, Maxpro, Geoshield, Protectgard, Unikorn, etc. = private label film supplied by major mfg'ers or converters to anyone who can afford to buy their own production run(s).
Toray = major polyester supplier to the window film industry

Okay for the glue, not okay for you to be inhaling it. Use it sparingly or you'll wind up like I did with alcohol poisoning; I used about one half cup per Poly2 continously in my slip, then stopped under doctor advisement.
It may be, you need take more time to prepare band matrix and remove the oxidation that is causing film not sticking to that material.
