  1. I agree Ryker for all the films that i have and for auto,   But when it comes to flat Glass especially big flat glass jobs, customers want to see documentation, Not only that but global has 31 different types of arch film none of them which ive ever seen besides silver 35,  I've never complained in the last 5 years of using global but now that I'm doing flat glass its starting to mean something to me. Im going to put this on the Fb boards to see if you get more responses.

  2. definitiley the tinter unfortunately , 3 things could of happened 1] he had the right blade [ss] but was dull which would be a mistake , 2] he had the right blade and was sharp the way its supposed to be BUT, your glass is soft [which if thats the case it is technically his fault BUT, in A away not his fault because there is no way to know of the glass was soft prior to cutting on it, OR the worst of all he used a carbon steel which cuts the glass no matter what at which point he is 100 percent to blame, I guess the real question is it worth the hassle about a line that you didnt even know was there and  will forget about next week and likely never see it again unless your purposely staring at it , I know its not the best response but its true, almost every car in the world is full of minor dents and scratches including all over the windows BUT you dont notice them unless your really trying to. .  same case in this matter,

  3. Does Does anybody have ab up to date, Global dealer marketing documents available online. . They have the supposed dealers den, but when you click on that it pretty much just tells you there is a catalog some where and even tells you can click on a "featured item" But no featured item to click on ?. .  I used google image search to find and download files like the one below from an Australian website but i can not find by them a complete collection.    BY FAR  The most complete source i could find is from Express's site "filmnow" website WHICH IT IS EXACTLY WHAT IM LOOKING FOR  but its uses all old logos and not update with certain films . .

while im ranting for some films like the crystal and alox, Neutral etc, they are not even found on Globals site . Even when i ordered the official "global " sample book half the films i was interested in learning about were missing,  . . . which sucks because how can sell something when neither i or the customer doesn't even know what it looks like.  ..  :(  Global PLEASE HELP US DEALERS LET THE WHOLE WORLD NOW HOW GOOD YOUR PRODUCT is BY UPDATING YOUR OLD MARKETING CATALOG WITH STATE OF ART AND UP TO DATE MARKETING AND DEALER SUPPORT ALONG WITH FULL SAMPLE FOR ALL YOUR AWSOME PRODUCTS!!!!!!!!! WE CAN'T SELL WHAT WE DONT KNOW . . . PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!! EDIT. . .after i wrote this i decided to check the site of every authorized distributor in the USA to see if any one has up to date marketing support. There is express, aka filmnow aka Howard , worldwide suncontrol , aka Umesh , Global dragon [i forgot who that was ] and Solar control aka Big Dog Chris, and a new one i never heard of Victory Vinyls Distribution,  For all the names i listed I have nothing but love and respect for you guys but, when i checked all the sites for dealer support only 2 mentioned anything ,  both of which where outdated. [dragon and express]  Howards list is ABSOLUTLEY AWESOME  , the more i go thru it the more jems i find. . .  sorry for this long post but have been researching all day thru the global sourced films and marketing support for a HUGE job coming up that i need to SELL and i couldn't find any  up do date marketing ,

. . i guess ill just have to use the retro stuff

  4. I go through Umesh and I've asked him about any other light films they have and he advised the only light film he has is a 70% ceramic I'm going to ask him if he can order it though and what the prices are because  I really need a light film and I prefer to stick with global/garware.  Not Only that but Umesh had always taking care of me if I've ever had any issues. . . I posted the same question on Facebook and got some pretty cool answers one was Rayno Platinum air 7090 IR and also a Helios Supernova Nano ceramic which is which is for a really really good price almost too good to be true going to do some more research on that one

  5. Hello @Naples Tint Company

I've been busy , but am still looking for the perfect 70,  I just realsied there is 2 difference companies selling a "wincos"  one is wincos-global and then the other is madico, if you dont mind me asking which one were you referring . . . for the madico, there is only one wincos and for the wincos, there is a bunch as listed above. . . .

  6. WOW. .. .  I would have never expected the CEO of laser labs to reply to me . . . .lol. . .  I hope i didn't get any one in trouble as the lady was extremely nice, but the more i inquired the about "the green glass" the more awkward the conversation got,  so my question for you ed, is there any effect of a green led being used on green glass? My logic in my mind indicates yes, but I dont have the knowledge to back that up. .  Either way thanks for the reply ,  I have one other questions as well. Are these meters accurate for measuring tint alone with out glass, I tried several time but kept getting an E1 error, it seem i probably should have got the 2 piece meter because its near impossible to press the lever and slide a piece a film in there with out geting an E1 error,  My reason for doing this is the as we mentioned earlier the factory glass is getting darker and darker to the 70 percent level and as it does we have to compensate what tint we put on the car for the darkness of the glass.. thanks for the replie

  7. thanks every one for the great responses. .  I know what im lookin for may seem impossible but then again its always out there some where, if you look hard enough,  @naplestint i just checked out wincos 70 website and it seems like a great film, im going to give them a call tommorow and get some prices on it, there specs are very impressive especially on the ir side5a5feb328baa7_winicofilm.JPG.2e0314440686e2e0d1778c7baee1839d.JPGhanks

  8. WOW,  never in a million years would I have thought to do that, thanks for the vid!. That's the beauty of tips and techniques is that normal normally they're so far out there that you would never think of doing them could you imagine what the optima tinter thought drysheers and soap when that first came out as a technique,  I presumed sum of scoffed at it!

again thanks for that vid. .

However it brings up two questions

1 do you do this on all cars or do you just have a list of cars you already know that you need to do it on

2 It seems like it would run risk the chance of destroying the lines, have you had any issues with this?

  9. Im looking for something that has a relatively High TSER , easy to shrink and good optical clarity and most important of all not be crystaline expensive

I've tried 50 percent global/suncontrol nr and love it clarity wise and shrinkability , but its to dark and has a tser arround 30 [from memory] , I ve tried 70 global cermaic but way to hard to shrink and horrible hazing issues, so i returned it,  but had great heat rejection and a TSER of 50 percent

I know 3m crystaline also TSER of 50 but way to pricey

Was looking at express nr cl 70% Tser 26 percent

and there all metal 70% which is 24TSER but thats to

and obviously that's pretty low TSER and the sizes are very odd like 60 inch and 30 inch which is very incovenent for installs when i normally get 40inch rolls

does anybody have any recommendations: I know were not supposed to discuss prices so im call it value in $$$$$

and im looking for something with a global value for reference : we will  call global $$ call crystalline $$$$$

I would love to know what your using , the TSER, shrinkability and value .

  10. Well I just did a little bit of digging and found this. . . . this on there website

    ""

    Quote

"Tint Meters measure at a wavelength of 550 nanometers that corresponds to the color green. 550nm was chosen as it is the center of the human eyes sensitivity and is the universal wavelength for optics measurement."

    http://www.laser-labs.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Online-Training-course-mobile-1.pdf

She advised that they had to change the led to white, so i guess the question is what is the affect of using a green led to measure vlt on green glass.
this would be a scientific question having to do with light absorption. . I know black absorbs all light , white reflects all light, but not sure the relation of a colored light shing on a colored glass, would be the light would be reflected back at a higher percentage OR would the green light be absorbed by the green glass resulting in a lower vlt.  .  it would take a genius to answer this. . . lol

    Any takers?

  11. So I just placed my first order with  Laser Labs and just got off the phone with them, I was speaking  with  some one and we were just casually talking about tint when  she brought something up that i have never heard of before.

She said that they have to modify the meters for the japanese market  because japan has "green" auto glass and the meters dont meter right with out then changing out the type of the led to a white led. . .   I asked her can she send me info on this because as most tinters know the glass on these new cars are getting darker and darker, right down to the  the federal 70 percent mark. and the hue chosen for the darkness is more often then not GREEN. I informed her this and she responds well japan has different glass and they dont ship japanese cars with japanese glass to the states, I replied well  its quite ironic how japanese toyotas like the corollas and camry have green glass just as she is describing  even the newer impalas have this look. . she responds well its proprietary information and so i can't send you any info. . . she was very nice, but at the this point seemed a little nervous as she likley was talking about something that she shouldnt have, however too late as my curiosity had just been arousen   \

so the million dollar question : she just inadvertently admitted that the meters on the us market  are not accurate with green glass which is slowly become the standard for newer cars, does anybody have any info on this. it seems like with the right documentation this would be a good way to get out of a ticket.  but at the same time there are millions of meters on the market already and deeming then all inaccurate for modern dark green glass would be a bit controversial . .  I'd love to your opinion on this or if any one has any info on this especially @smartie2shoes

  12. thanks for the vids, its always helps to see suggestions and tips from others, I have a couple of recommendations for vids of common issues

1] installin film in cars that have very deep gaskestsn the left and right side of the window, example would be an  audi a8 or newer bmw 745s, the rubber seal comes in almost an inch in both sides and it very hard to get it all in there with out iy either creasing the film or cutting the film shorter to compensate

2]installing rear tint on cars that have extra thick defroster lines while avoiding peanuts as it dries. .   example chrysler 300 lexus es 300

3] installing film on front windows that have a very small length on the mirror side of the glass , the issue is when your you have the window rolled down an inch for part one of install the mirror side of the glass can be only a 2 or 3 inches making it very hard to seal it into place and roll it up so you can get do part 2 of the install aka the bottom install. . . for example newer some newer cadiliac ,  lexus is 250 and several others

These are all cars i have dealt and and i got them all done and done well, BUT not with out a bunch of frustration and irritation, any tip videos would be much appreciated by me and many others.

  13. you sound like one of my customers . . . lol, and the response i give them is : Tint is designed to be seen thru if you coulndt see thru it then you would not be able to see out   . . . . simple as that . . . . if you dont want any one seeing in you might as spray paint your windows black or  install black out film or put some type of curtain over the windows. .  . the technical answer would be its all about the angles your looking thru it, clouds, reflection , sun angle, interior color, vlt of your factory glass, reflectivity of the film,   . Even limo 5 you can see thru in the right conditions, . . . Heck, I have double 15 on the back quarter panel window of my suv which should be about 1 or 2 percent and if my windows or down and im looking from the outside quarter panel window thru the open window you can still see thru in it , in short no film is 100 percent non see thru in 100 percent of conditions, except black out film, which is truly pitch black and the equivalent of you painting  your windows black. . . .

Now for the morality of it. . . .I personally had 5 percent tint one of my cars when i was 18 [im 31 now] . I had just installed it and no more than a week later  i was at a gas station on the beach at night time and there was a crowd of people there and i was making a u turn in the parking lot AND COULD NOT SEE HIM AT ALL i almost rand a guy over. . ..  ..  if it wasnt for him pounding on my car i would of hit him. . .

story number 2: I also used to have 30 percent on the windshield one of my cars also when i was about 18 and at night if it was raining, I LITTERLY COULD NOT DISTINGUISH THE ROAD FROM THE GRASS, AND SWERVED OFF ROAD SEVERAL TIMEs. . .

WHAT YOUR DOING IS DANGEROUS AND LIKELY TO GET SOMEONE KILLED,

Do you really want that on your shoulders. . .

I know your gonna say you can see thru it just fine, but that is not true in all conditions, especially if its dark out and its raining . .  .

for your answer, as for as im aware tell tint does not do "weird things" when layered. . . vlt is vlt.  . .minus it being twice as likely to fail since one layer is attached to another.

now for a solution that might actually help you achive your goal with out you killing someone. . .and being easily removable in low light conditions

    7122DnNi4xL._SL1200_.jpg

i currently have these for my car on the fronts, my suv has double 15 in the back quarter panel, 15 on the rear windows, and 40 percent on the front 2 and when i put these on the front 2 it makes them match the rear 15 percent nearly perfect,  if you were to put them on yours is would likley make it look like 1 or 2 percent which is extremely dark, but again you need to be careful and i would only recommend you using them when parked. .

  14. Thank you so much for your response.  I   am a technical person by Nature and always have technical questions and you always give great technical answers I really appreciate it.

I don't live in the best area hence my interest and putting security film on my own house but before I drop 300-400  plus dollars on the roll to do it I was wondering if it's actually worth it we've all seen some great vids on testing out these films  but like all things most people leave out the fine print. .  I must admit though llumar was the most Fair in showing the different ratings of their film on different types of glass and the others did not do this they only use single and dual-plane quarter inch tempered which is crazy Strong by itself . . .I love to chat with you in person one day smarty to shoes , I have other technical questions that I've posted on this forum before that have not really been answered  to the technical degree that my mind loves . One of those questions is actually lays out a principal for an invention that has yet to be made, and would revolutionize The Tint industry.  of all people you would probably have the answer to it and or know the way to accomplish it

  15. 4 hours ago, ErieTint said:

I went through the program at LLumar's facility in Martinsville Virginia the second week of October. Class went really well, instructor was super cool and there was only one other guy registered so it was pretty hands on and focused with instruction. Had to open an account and place an opening order to get registered for class, I would say that was the only downside. I did have help from my rep and a friend who used to tint with what to buy size and VLT wise though. They got me pretty well set up and I've only had to order one additional roll so far for a local PD's new K9 car.

Have been moving pretty slow getting things going but I am still working a full time job. I picked up a Graphtec plotter from my friend mentioned above and got that set up and running right before Christmas. Having doors cut for me is HUGE because my hand cutting skills were "meh" at best. I would like to be at the point where I could do a full vehicle in about four hours or less. Pulled in, cleaned, shrunk, tinted, cleaned again and back out in four hours or less. Figured that isn't too lofty and is a pretty good metric to shoot for. That would give me two or more vehicles per day ability wise. Would really like to replace my full time job with this once I am fast enough. I have a list with close to 30 people on it right now that I am slowly picking away at based on our schedules coordinating.

hellow @ErieTint I was told from a local tinter in the swfl that lumar will not just sell to anybody , and will not allow new installers to install there product,  I figured he might be lying since he seemed to be full of his self? But being that you have first hand experience with opening an account with llumar,  I figured i ask you, it seems from you post they gave you no hassle at in setting up an account and ordering film , Id like here from you on this matter. LLumar is one of the few films that can get big money in the Southwest Florida  area . The same guy told me he charges 450 for there high end CTX , which in florida is crazy as everybody is in the raise to zero, and its common to see people tint between 99-140

  16. Before i started tinting I used to work in the glass industry , and am pretty well versed on the types of glass out there.  [standard plate glass, tempered, laminated, dual pane insulated , laminate with tempered or plate , Or  insulated with tempered or plate]  . This may sound Like i rambling but my point is most vids seem to apply it to the specialty windows that I just listed. There are Zero video results for testing on 1/8 plate. My question is how well does security film work on just standard 1/8 plate. This is the regular glass that is found on most  homes and is thin glass and is relatively weak when comparing to tempered or laminate.. . .

It seem that most vids  and advertising in regards to security films completely avoids this topic .  However it is extremely relevant because tempered is extremely hard and unbreakable from a hammer or batt unless you hit the edge or hit it with a sharp point . So when you see these vids claiming how good security film is, for all we know its been applied to tempered, or laminate. Further more I personally looked up the test sheets for both 3m llumar and express which reference miami hurricane missile codes and both of them pretty much compared apples to oranges because they applied it to to insulated dual pane 1/4 tempered glass which is extemely strong all by its self. . . WHO THE HELL HAS THIS. . . .    I can tell you from first hand installer experience very very few homes have 1/4 glass, especially 1/4  tempered. most homes are 1/8 plate all the around and then 3/16 tempered for sliding glass doors.   Im not trying to knock any of the companies here, but my question for my fellow Tinters is :
Is it even worth installing security film to 1/8 glass, Does anybody have first hand experience with it being tested on 1/8 glass?

I ask because I'm interested in installing on my own home, but my home like most homes have the standard 1/8 glass and 3/16 tempered sliders. also if I installed I would likely urethane /silicone the edges, and possibly install on inside and out. This is my end Goal if at all possible with standard glass?

  17. Gareware Suncontrol . They are the owner of Global films,  which one of the best films and most respected films on the market . . .  Alot of people think its not as good since its not Global, but thats not true, Gareware is the owner of global , and the Gareware suncontrol line is known internationally  and one of only 2 companies in the world that make film from scratch[eastman being the other].  I have used both global and gareware for many years know and there is ZERO FADE,  AND ZERO COMEBACKS  . Also There is no percievable difference between the global and gareware lines

  18. IF it wasn't for 2 people and one event  I probably wouldn't have had the courage to do it

    . . .
1] Is is a Friend and  long time Tinter that i met, When I met him he assured me there is no shortage of cars to be tinted,   he also started to send me some work and told me if ever got 2 slow all I had to do is give him a call and he would send me some work. THIS WAS VERY REASSURING ,  I have yet to call him for being "slow" but the reassurance is comforting
2] My momma who told me to jump off the cliff and learn how to fly on the way down. . . . she said if you never jump you will never learn!!!!
3]while debating jumping off the cliff one day i made like 600 in one day and this was a wake up smack in the face, I made 2 weeks of work in ONE DAY that was the straw that broke the camel's back!!!!!  what i did was I went to part time at my old job for 2 months to see if could do it[10 hour days 2 days a week 4 days tinting ] after that i quit for good and have never looked

Between all this IT IS STUPID NOT TO DO IT .

LIKE NIKE SAID JUST DO IT. . . . Yes im very slow in clientele as most guys are knocking out 4-6 cars a day and im doing 2-6 a week!  but I DON'T CARE.. . . . Im not trying to be rich and im not trying to work 40 plus hours a week,  so my advice to you is to find out how many cars a week you need to to make a living. . . .and set that as your goal

one other thing to note: 1 week i could make 150 the next week i could make 1200, So what i do is i pretend i live on my old pay checks and if i make 1200 for a week I know i made what i need for the month . its probably not the best way to run a business but im learning the business side of things as i go. . . DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. I tint full time, but in reality its part time, I quit my job about 6 months ago to mobile tint full time, at my old job i was used to making 10 an hr / 300 a week [I WAS PISS POOR]  The good news is im still used to living off this money . , so i dont need much to survive and i can make that in a car in 1.5 cars . So what i do  is list my self as being on call mon-saturday 9-4 and when im not tinting, I hang out BEING FREEE ALL DAY TO DO WHAT I WANT  and then when i get a call I go out and do the job! I dont know if you count that full time or part time, But for me its Freedom , and i get to work when i want .  i tint 2-6 cars a week which is either way quadruple what i made at my old Job

This is what scares about getting a shop.  For the first time in my life i am free and im not sure if I want to commit my self to the hours that shop involves!

  20. Is that you Jim?  I live in Fort Myers also and got to work with bud of mine named Jim, and he is the fastest Tinter I THINK IVE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No double cutting either ,  From my own eyes Ive seen him. He slaps the film on the car cuts it , installs in what looks like 5 minutes per window . He does all of this even if the wind is blowing and the customer is talking !!!!!!!!!!!!!! It blows my mind! Me on the other hand is about 2 hours with no talking , no mess ups and no wind, If any of those happen then then im sittin at least 3 hours plus
