Bagging in the sun is still the best way. I have never liked a steamer for removal. In the winter no sun for us. I got a few IR curing heat lamps and used those with the bagging method. Works like a charm.

What chemical do you usually apply with the bagging method?  I've never really got it to work.  Seeing as we have the same climate I though I would ask.

  2. Oh yeah - rookie move on my part. If you want to remove the rear headrests there’s a pin hole opposite of the adjustment button. Insert a pick tool and the headrest comes right out. Makes life easier.

  3. I totally agree. I hate cutting out brake lights, looks much cleaner without for sure. However I always cut them out, unless someone specifically asks me not too. Just trying to cover my ass haha!

Utah law says there can’t be any film between the brake light and glass, highway patrol is known to write “fix it” tickets for it. Even though they did away with annual safety inspections, this is something they still enforce on the road. - Lame!

I just don’t want someone coming back to me asking me to redo their rear window because they got written up for it.

  4. It's just the type of adhesive and that's what you want from them. Install will be normal. Maybe smartie2shoes could give us the technical side of it.

Oh okay cool. Thanks for your input. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t buying a weird film that would require some sort of fancy install or something.

If I only choose two shades to start what would you recommend? Any input on roll sizes?
  5. Anybody know how to remove the headrests on these damn things? I know the center headrest is fixed, but it would be nice to remove the sides.

Tried everything and didn’t want to break headrest on a car with 50 miles on it.

  6. Hmmm if you look really close there are some inconsistencies on the edge that aren’t typical with a plotter. I’m guessing just a bad hand cut. But who knows. Anyways that’s besides the point. Just play it cool and ask the shop if they wouldn’t mind redoing the window. Sometimes tinters like to see what they can get away with.

  7. Honestly haven’t tucked a gasket since the early 00’s, when a lot of them stopped popping back up on their own. Also the second layer would get stuck down and scratch the tint later. Do you untuck everything when your finished? If so, how are you getting the bottom seal back up on back doors that don’t roll down all the way?

I believe he’s talking about tucking the film itself behind the seal in typical top load fashion. Not actually tucking the seal down.
