  1. 3m is the only I’d recommend out of those and as stated it’s a highly reflective film. The Johnson insulatIR you mentioned in the last comment is like the suntek decent at best.  Installed it for 2 years as my ceramic line... dropped it though because 1 out of every 3 back glasses had to be warrantied after discontinuing the line in our shop.  It doesn’t ghost at all when shrinking and installing but 2-3 years later it suddenly shows up. And not from lack of skill on shrinking either.   Also $350 is too cheap for any area for that film including the windshield especially on the new type r civic. IMO should be closer to the $450-$550 range. Best of luck

Well buddy you can't win them all. When some people get something stuck in their head and you tell them they can't have it they'll go to the one that says they can, even if it means consequences. Her lost not yours. If you ever get the call back that their windows broke I would respond I'm sorry to hear that I hope that other shop takes care of you.

That was almost word for word what I told my guy that works for me. He was bummed cuz he loves flat glass work because we’re in the ac.  Another thing that scared me was the lady telling me how she constantly changed her mind while remodeling.  I was like NOPE!

  3. Thanks guys for the input.  I let the customer walk.  Told her I couldn’t offer a film that would suit her every need. If she was willing to give up one need or another I may could help. Even tried offering a neutral film. Found out the other shop was quoting $4k and using automotive “carbon” film!!!!  Told her no I wouldn’t do it. Wouldn’t risk failure. She politely thanked me and went with the other shop

Yeah well I want a million bucks and a cute blonde....

If it's not reflective, it's gonna break the glass. And won't do much for heat.

Suntek has a %10 non-reflective film but I'm sure it's not safe for that window. I've used it on internal windows or tempered glass....

Roach I was hoping you’d see this. I thought you only did flat glass!  I told them that the absolute darkest I’d go would be around a 30-35.  Back in the day rule of thumb was 20% or lighter.  But glass is so cheap now a days!   Idk what to do

  5. 99% of my customers get dual reflective residential film.  I have a customer hell bent on a black or charcoal film. Very large dual pane insulated windows and wants next to 0 reflectivity.  What are the flat glass guys using to achieve this result.  She wants black. Heat rejection. And privacy. And doesn’t understand that with a non reflective film someone can see in after dark if inside lights are on. Input appreciated!

  6. I use fusion all type now. SolarFX sets us quick. Global sets up quick. But I can stress enough. Xpel sets up before you can even get it into place. Especially on a large piece like a windshield or back glass.  Did a charger yesterday with one of the samples. No steel wool on defrosters. No rapid tac. No alcohol barely scrubbed it. Squeegeed it off. Shrunk as usual. Laid film on. No peanuts-Nothing. And it formed around those huge defrosters like a 1 ply film and STUCK
