I've got a new car coming in a few months and as debating between Suntek PPF-M and the Stek dynomatt film. The guy who is using STek is local to me and the Suntek guy is a few hours away. Both shops have done work on my friend's cars and deal in mostly higher end cars (Porsche, Lambo and so forth). The local shop (Stek) would be a bit of a premium but having local in case there are issues would be nice. I don't really want to drive a few hours multiple times (likely have to leave the car with them for a week each time) to save money in the short term. People seem very loyal to their film from the various boards but I figured I'd try and get some feedback from installers who have worked with each company. The car is a metallic silver if that makes any difference.

side by side, suntek is still glossier on white cars.   suntek also has more optically clear  (not the grainy texture like xpel is known for) than stek   if you are in Seattle area, go

Suntek is a great film STEk seems from our initial testing to also be pretty good. Ultimately it comes down to the skill of the installer now. A great installer will do a good job whichever film you

Thanks for the reply back. That's great first hand info.I have some on the full front of a car right now also. I will check back after it has been on a while and report. This is why I love Tintdude.

My friend has had 3 cars wrapped by the Suntek people, but his cars have all been vinyl wrap (various brushed metallic films). I've seen a bunch of their Suntek work in pictures though. The Stek shop has done a lot of work on another friend's cars (mostly frontal work, but also saw a 911GT3 with Stek (not Matte though) he showed me while checking out the shop.

I believe the Stek shop probably does a bit better work in talking to them and I'm leaning that way because he is local and seemed a bit more detailed in their process (7-10 days vs 4-5 to complete the work). He is trying to see if he can get me a bit closer to the Suntek shop price but it would still be a couple thousand more to do it local.

I just finished wrapping  the complete car on a GTR in S-tek matte. I have also been using the S-tek Dyno on full front ends. So far I love the film.Suntek has been out longer and has a good track record on longevity. I still use both. I charge more for S-tek as it is a costlier film. Using both films, if I was choosing I would go with S-tek. The top coat is just so nice. The only down fall to the S-tek is the time on the market in the US. But if nothing new ever came out we would still be using the crap original 3m films.But like we always say on this board, installer makes the biggest impact no matter what film you choose.

What on earth are you covering that takes a week to do?  

 

Pretty sure I know the shop he is talking about and they will have 3-4 full car wraps in the shop at any given time, not to mention their full front jobs.  In order not to grind their business to halt by working o one car at a time, they tend to spread out the jobs since they have the space.

New Audi Q7. And yes I'm fully aware that it is shop time. But 7-10 days of shop time vs 3-4 is vastly different either way.

I'm keeping the names of both shops off the forum for respect of the parties.

      Cracked glass

      The crack indicates thermal stress, however, the edge of the glass may have an imperfection (bur or clam shell chip). The crack does run 90 degrees out from the edge and curves as it follows any weaknesses in the pane itself. I have attached a pictured of what tempered glass looks like when it breaks and alongside it what a plate (or float) and heat-strengthened glass looks like when it breaks. The outer panel my be tempered should indicate so by a stamp etched on the glass surface in one corner. It should indicate tempered. Plate glass has no indicators, however, heat-strengthened glass will crack in the same manner as plate glass. I'm an unsure whether heat-strengthened glass requires a stamp. Tempered glass is 4 times stronger than plate and heat-strengthened is 2 times stronger than plate. 1 in 24 is indicative of edge imperfection. I could not find the solar absorption rate of DN 50, but if it is similar to competitive films, there should be no issue with that installation setting (including a straight line shadow). This, too, points back to edge imperfection as the cause. And finally, I spy drapes in a close position, correct? If so, it would be helpful to crack open during sun exposure; this to assist in allowing trapped heat between the glass and drapes to dissipate.

      Cracked glass

      Hello. I recently installed Johnson Daylight Natural DN 50 on a couple of windows. Solar energy rejection is 39%. The windows are double pane and the glass is supposed to be tempered 4mm + tempered 6mm. The roof overhang shades the top 1/3 - 1/2 of the windows. However, a few days after installation I noticed that one of the glass has cracked, presumably due to thermal stress. Should I remove the film from the rest of the windows? I installed the film on 24 of these windows (6 tiny houses) so now 1 out of 24 is broken. Or is it more likely that I just got unlucky and the glass had a defect? Is shading from the roof overhang such a big factor? The glass cracked. Is it really tempered? I thought tempered glass would shatter, but not crack. Thanks!

      Take a look at 3M's Nightvision or LLumar's Dual Reflective series, they both have a warm tone to them.

      Steer clear of Black Armour, Suntek, ASWF. The others are good choices if you are in Australia. Check out the reviews of the installer too. It’s not just the materials that have to be proper. Never go for the cheapest!!!

      Residential Film without blue hue?

      Hey guys I am in the process of having window film installed in my home but have a question about which brand I should go with. Hoping yall can help me out. I have a room that faces a busy street and as a result my blinds pretty much always stay closed. I love having natural daylight but not so much people being able to see what i'm doing in my room/all my expensive equipment. I used to work in the window film industry as a helper/installer/salesman when I was in highschool and we did a lot residential/commercial work. The specific brand of film we used always left a certain blue and cool appearance. Is there any brand of residential film that does not have this effect? I mainly just cannot stand having blue light amplified and am looking for a film that has a neutral shade to it or even a warm/yellow hue. I have single pane windows and I do not necessarily care about heat rejection but if I have to pay more for a ceramic film rather than a dual reflective or a standard film I am willing to if that helps solve the issue. Again, any help is really appreciated with this there are so many new window film brands out there and it really is cool to see how far the industry has come.

      Automotive Tint Comparison

      LLumar, 3M and Solargard have in the industry as far back as the genesis of window film mid-1960's). Solargard is the younger of the three and all others came to play in the last 20 or so years. I've had all three on my vehicles over the years and my current is 3M Crystalline on my Jeep since 2015. It still has stable color, scratch coat is holding strong and impeccable adhesive clarity. Never been garaged. My choice toady would be 3M or LLumar.

      Hook up with Glassy Business and get all the ins and outs of pro vs DIY with window film. That company goes back way before my retirement in 2015. I want to believe they are/were a Vista Film dealer and I cannot remember the owner's name. Peace out.
