Don’t blame ya. This definitely made for a tough day, lot of up and down since it’s just me installing. Hard to argue with the almost $2k (after film) they paid me to do it though. Not bad for 5 hours of work.
used to love those jobs-now i'm just too old and too FAT!
too scared also

personally i don't give a percentage. i just give the shop my price and tell them to charge on top of that. i'm not giving anyone a percentage of my money.

i guess since everyone is off, they figure it's a good time to get windows done. phone has been ringing off the hook. but i am closed down and just take numbers to call back when things ease up.
i can't believe, when we are supposed to be keeping away from people, that so many people feel the need to leave their homes, and try to interact with someone just to have some film applied.

"A higher price tag gives the customer perceived value in your service."
whether or not it's true, customers will think you are better if your price is higher
i feel people will question you less
you won't mind spending that extra time to get the job done right
a repair is easier to stomach when you get paid good the first time you tint the vehicle
also, you are not in business to tint someones vehicle. you are in business to MAKE MONEY. tinting is just the way to do it. so make the most you can without being too greedy.
it's very easy to drop prices if you need to, but, like was said before, difficult to go up.

I honestly feel you will not be happy with any tint based on your post above.

i personally don't hate the sunstrips. minimum $50 and always have the tint ready
i guess i really hate anything that takes time and too much mental energy like the 79 vette rear i just did for a friend
and of course the audi a6

Sounds fishy the guy would take all those pics before the job, so he knew he’d have some ammo for after the job was finished. I don’t buy it at all. In the end, he got a free tint job and will never get the scratch fixed. If he posted pics we could all tell if the scratch was from the installer. I feel like this isn’t his first rodeo. Probably eats all of his dinner, then complains that it was no good to get it comp’d.
was thinking the same thing
these situations are posted here all the time and even with both sides of the story, we still don't know who is to blame and no one here can make that call.
i see a bunch of scenarios here
1) car was scratched when it went in
2) shop scratched car on accident and knows about it and is denying it
3) car got scratched at shop and no one even realized it
4) customer got a scratch after leaving
5) someone walked by car while it sat in shops parking lot and scratched it on accident
6) customer stops for gas on the way to shop and it gets scratched
7) probably others you can come up with.....
i've accidentally damaged cars in my shop before(after almost 30 years, you're gonna have a couple) and i've paid to get them fixed. but i've also been blamed for damage i didn't do and i will NEVER bend to paying for that. i, for one, am not a believer that the customer is always right because too many people take advantage of a situation.

14 full sedans? No way. Not possible at all.
Taco says 14 cars average-gotta believe him if he says it
maybe he does 7 full cars and a couple suvs and a couple trucks to round it out to 14

....AND he doesn't even want any help.

14 cars a day is very impressive
impressive is not the word-it's way beyond impressive.
i'm just trying to wrap my head around the thought of doing 14 cars on average a day-holy crap
14 hour day?? pulling cars in and out, cutting, cleaning, shrinking, applying. and no comebacks!!!!! DAMN!!!!
hands down-best i've ever heard of
i've never wanted to meet a fellow tinter, but you, sir, are someone who i would like to meet and also learn from

yep-no problem there at all
some people expect it to look like factory tinted glass-got to remember it is aftermarket and you can't expect perfection-just a really good job(which that is)

The black border is original. I remember doing these in the 80's and you had to be extra careful not to strike the black lest it crumbles and seeped under the film edge. Absolute nightmare.
I use to do them in 9 butt-seamed strips. Met guy out of Orlando back then that did them in 5 pieces using vertical seams.
yep-that black is original-i've done a bunch of them years ago when i was just starting and that stuff will just keep flaking
gotta pass on those-too frustrating

3m has a huge name that people know. other than that, there is nothing that 3m has over any of the other mannys. years ago i tried 3m and after buying and using 3 rolls, i went back to my other film.
don't know about anyone else, but i can honestly say that 99% of people that call just want their car tinted. i rarely get questioned on what i brand or type of film i use.
bottom line, if you can tint and tint well, then you will make money.

Non ultra or regular???
i use the ultra
i also use it pretty heavy so i always have plenty of slip. being that i use the solarfx carbon and the glue is so aggressive, it tacks up really quick with a couple passes of the squeegee. i don't measure how much but if i had to guess, i would say i add about a good tablespoon to my poly 2.
i gave the slime a try a couple years ago and threw the rest away after 1 use. went right back to the joy.

joy dw liquid-been using for 20 years-never a problem
$62 tint slime
$2 joy

been tinting for 30 years-never did a perfect car yet.
you can find a flaw in every window if you want to get down and dirty and look for it
if anyone says they can do a full car perfect, another tinter will find a flaw in it. it's the nature of the business. there is dust in the air all around us and that gets picked up before you can peel and set it in place.
can't be done and i'm not a betting man, but i'll put money on that all day long. it's a no brainer.
