Getting more money I why I was pricing higher. Its just that there are many more small crossovers today. Pricing the same i think i get more of them.

I try to charge the same for each vehicle, but will charge more for if the vehicle is much more difficlult. A good example would be VW Jettas and Passats, which take me much longer than your average sedan. Last Jetta i did, i said i was going to stop tinting them!

I hate them Jettas too! Yeah lots of times I usually add that extra charge for certain vehicles like the Jetta or any that I know will be PITA or extra work.

  2. Agreed. I price crossovers the same as sedans. I think most of the time many crossovers are way easier and use a bit less material (back window) than a sedan.

On another note, for most coupes and sedans I also price those the same. I feel like on average, most of the back windows on coupes are a bit bigger and more difficult to shrink. Also, the front side window door windows are a bit longer and on some cars frameless. So for simplicity I charge them the same. I don't count windows that much more on cars anymore unless maybe bump the price up a bit for a car than has 9 windows versus 5-7. And I hardly play the how many windows game with customers because many time they act like we shouldn't be charging extra for the small windows even though we all know some of them are PITA!

  3. If you bought it off another shop and not from the manufacturer or distributor you will not be an "authorized dealer" therefore you can't warranty your films through Llumar.  You are pretty much SOL unless you can go the Select Pro Dealer route like Dynamic mentioned. Try finding another film to love.

They gave me some samples, haven't decided myself personally about using them.

  4. I noticed you said that you need to get better. So are you still learning the tint trade? You may want to hold off on renting a commercial location to practice as I think most will require you to get insurance, then pay utilities on top of the rent. Not sure you would be able to sustain yourself if you are still learning. I've seen people like on craigslist who rent out extra garages but not sure if they will be ok with you working on cars inside.

Actually they changed the law in California , so now you can tint your windshield in. 70% or lighter ! I even tinted a sheriffs truck because he knew they changed the law and said as much ! Also the new range rovers have laminated 70% already in the windshield stock , so if their doing that why not make it legal

Most windshields on any car and stock windows have 70% VLT or lighter. It has been that way for a long time not just on the new Range Rovers.

It is legal , you can look it up or ask a cop they know it’s legal now for 70% or lighter

I just looked it up and all I find is information about the new tint law being for medical exemptions only. I also tinted two cops windshield's a few months ago and they knew or thought it wasn't legal lol. I need look into it more or find the new Vehicle Codes somewhere. I'll let you know what I find but I still believe that doing a whole windshield is illegal in CA.

But so far this is what I found on a website (not official though):

Many states allow different window tint percentages due to certain medical conditions. Assembly Bill No. 1303 (source) has been approved in September 2017, allowing California drivers to apply for medical exceptions for tinting film.

Previously you could technically get medical exemptions for sunscreening devices on front side windows, but any such devices were illegal to use during nighttime. Under new California window tint laws persons with medical conditions requiring shielding from UV rays can install clear, colorless and transparent material on any window.

Hey Cali, did you have to call in to order the 40"? I looked and looked and don't see that on their website....just 36 or a 60 or am I missing something?

I never order off the website. Its so outdated like @jh812 said. I also do not call in. I order via email. I believe (I could be wrong) that if you order electronically (web, email, etc.) instead of calling in, you get free shipping if you spend over $500 or something like that. I have a price list but the updated one now shows no 40" in any QDP CERAMIC. WTF?

I did check my old order and my inventory and I do have a 40X100 80% roll. Not sure if they split it, but I never requested a split roll.

Yes and more detail soak the pattern or window or both??? Lots of slip in solution please explain ????

I like to wet the window generously but I wouldn't say super soaking. I spray a lot more on my pattern. At the same time you want to make sure you have enough slip on the windshield. I hate when it sticks because it leaves more potential for flaws. I also always use foam cleaner around the edges on top and by the pillars and swipe with a paper towel just like @Blackwolftinting and not hit the headliner on final squeegee or spray slip up there. I've learned to do about 1-2 additional flush and downward passes with my yellow turbo on the sides to get rid of contamination on the sides.

Another thing I like to do is a partial peel prior to me bringing the roll into the car. How much of the partial peel I do kinda depends on the windshield. Sometimes I peel 1/4 and sometimes half the roll. I think it depends on access.

Last thing is sometimes I tape the headliner if I think theres a chance the film might touch it. Usually only the first half of the windshield. I sometimes do this on the back glass as well.

Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps

I will be using Global Window Films and they only offer 30", 36", 60", 72" in the 80%.

I was thinking about ordering the 36" but now i wonder if I should order the 60" and have it cut 36" and 24" so I can now offer both windshield and other windows with the clear ceramic tint if the client prefers clear tint over dark tint.

That's strange because I have a couple rolls of 40"X100' in 80%. I go through Express though, not sure about you. I wouldn't order the 60" cut 36/24 if you don't have 40".  I had a van come thinking I could do it in 36" but NOPE! Had to order a 40" to do it.

The new law I believe you are speaking of requires a doctors note for a skin condition from what I know. I could be wrong but that's what I have seen on the news and in internet searches.
