  1. When I was new my quarters looked like crap too. Now they look really good.

I keep many of my installation tools after they have exceeded their life for installs and use them for cleaning purposes only. I mark them with an X on both sides

    My procedure:

    1: Razor window

2: Spray foam glass cleaner all around the seals.

3: Using a thin microfiber towel and whatever tool (contour, bone, tri-edge, etc.) will fit into that particular window, I will do a pass all around deep into the seals. This also loosens the seal for easier installation. I also wipe the surrounding area in case the tint touches those areas during install. Flush windows with slip solution.

4: Then I follow up and I do the same thing with a quality blue shop (paper) towel. Not the kind that breaks apart but the reuseable ones.

    -READY FOR INSTALL

    5. Light but complete mist on the window with slip solution. I never spray deep into the upper seal before installation.

    6. Peel liner from film and remove piece from clean transfer board or exterior window

    7. Wet film while holding in the palm of my hand. I try not to handle the edges when possible.

    8. Carefully install with as little touching of seals and outer areas of the window as possible.

If the car is brand new, I might skip the microfiber step if I feel its pretty clean.

:chin I dont think so. I've only ever had one customer complain and that was on global hp film. I still use global ceramic but I did just redo a windshield that was ceramic 50. It was on my moms and I had the vehicle for a couple weeks. It was very distorted and I actually wound up sending the roll back. I believe that was just a fluke though because I've installed a good amount of it without complaints.

Hmm ok, thought it was you. Guess not. Maybe I'll send the roll back or test it out on my car first. Thanks brotha!

I haven't found a 70% I'm happy with to date. I honestly don't have much request for that particular shade but it would be nice to have. However I use global 80% for legalish windshield film. It's thicker like the 70 is but I haven't come across a shield I couldn't successfully tint with it yet. Low haze to it, no starburst effect, and tser is 44 I think.

I actually wanted to ask you. I think it was you that I recall talking about how you used to use Global QDP Ceramic but stopped because of complaints? Well I recently installed 70% on a windshield and they complained it was distorted.

That said, I did end up using Global 80% (Ice Cool Grey) as a replacement and for any other windshield I have done since then. So far so good.

Since you already use Global @Go2Guy have you tried 80% Ice cool grey?

The Q5 and SQ5 don’t need felt. I can tint them without removing the door panels but I’ll get small side creases at the sides where the break line is at. Not really noticeable when heated out but with the few extra min it takes to remove the panel I can do an even cleaner install faster and easier. With the panel removed I just do a full peel and bomb drop it. Then I’ll move to the next door and come back at the end to file the top edge. The hardest panels to remove are the A6 and A8. A6 has tight clips and require you to lift up. The A8 has the power shades. The rest of the Audi line up only takes less then 2 mins a door for removal.

Cool!, I really I appreciate all that info brotha!!! I need to start practicing the bomb drop method! lol THANKS!

Normally I just do the two front doors on these and the seals are tight. I did remove the door panel once but its a pain. The door handle has a plastic that is super tight to remove and you always crack it a little on the back side. Too many ridges that hold it together. Plus the door panel is heavy. I have to use three bungee cords to hold the panel. This new method, well not exactly new but in my bag of tricks. Remove the trim piece by popping it out and sliding it towards the front exposing two torx bolts. Pop the top of the panel towards the rear and remove the sweep. Now install is cake with bomb drop method. Putting the sweep back in remember to spray some slip on the underside of the sweep and it slides right back. Here's a pic of where the two bolts are located.

Did you install felt? Was wondering if the Audi Q5 needed felt.
