Flat Glass Dirt Issues

Recommended Posts

Hi,

need some basic advice, but please be aware that where this film is fitted is a third world country, and nearly all the glass is single pane NOT double pane, although the glass itself can be of good quality.

The problem is that we clean the glass, scrub it scrape it well, but no sooner do we put the film on particles of dirt appear around the some of the edges. The dirt appears clear under the film, but more recently we have had a few more customers making comments. We can remove some but it just appears in another place.

I think that because the glass is single pane and not sealed well, dirt can easily get in from outside and through the rubber gasket.

Is there a way to clean better or help prevent this problem when fitting?

thanks for any help

You need to clean the edges of the glass/frame/gasket better. Then flush any residue to the bottom. Do not squeegee all the way to the edge and cut quickly and smooth. Practice practice practice

A lot of contamination can get washed down from your top edge. After your final rinse and dry do not wet the top of the glass. As you spray before applying the dfuilm leave a few centimetres accross the top dry and rely on soaking the film and slide up to the top. Thios way any contamination on the frame & gasket does not get washed down onto the glass. As well as what others are saying.

All the above. Treat dust/dirt like a terrorist , it will infiltrate anywhere and anytime to make amess of things. Take every precaution to avoid it.

As you mentioned possible bad seals, sometimes a small air leak and an outside breeze will drive you nuts. When you flush out the edges you'll be able to verify a seal problem cause the water will run outside. After cleaning , and there is not an inborn dust problem strip the liner and only spray the film. Accurate positioning is essential. you don't want to move the film or jar the glass if it is loose and squeege like Tom said.

Thats the part of doing a proffesional install , figuring out how to rectify a problem for a good job. Good :thumb Luck on it.

Reverse roll hasn't been mentioned yet.

Are you stripping the liner, spraying and flipping the film or reverse rolling?

Reverse rolling only exposes the film for a very short time and as soon as its locked on along the top edge no dust can fall onto the exposed film. Reckon I reverse roll 99% of my flat glass installs.
