Like @Bham said russets are the standard although for mashed (and roasted) I really like yukon golds and red potatoes are really good too.

Agree 100% on that.  There are some good smashed potato recipes with the Yukon golds.   Good on ya @highplains

Thanks Guys. I'll have to give them a try. I usually just get the normal idaho potatoes.  Just looking for something different.
