Cut without adding extra

Watching some tint videos I see a couple people that sometimes don't shift the film when doing vertical cuts on side glass, they just cut it in place with no extra on each side. Doesn't that show the edges of the film from the outside?

I remember reading awhile back someone saying it was all about the angle of the knife. IDK I wasn't ever really successful with either way and always stuck with the sharpie.

When I was hand cutting everything every day, I would do that a lot, the angle is everything. But, you can only do that on certain cars. There are plenty of models out there that will bite you in the a&$ for doing that. You’ve got to know which ones.

I always shift and usually tuck as much as i can on the sides.  Sometime i bump the bottom up to compensate.

Do you bump up the bottom so it's not hard to tuck on the inside

I do it when the exterior/interior gaskets are even and its a vehicle i know too much film will need to be tucked. Mostly do it on euro vehicles with tight gaskets, but I usually just pull the seals/panels on them now.

Still hand cut, and do the same without even thinking about it.

Why cut on it? If you use the sharpie you would only need to line the bottom, roll window down, and cut the top then transfer to peel board and cut the sharpie marks.

anytime a blade is on the glass there's a chance for it to scratch it, why take that risk?

I would always shift when I cut on the glass, but the last few years I did auto I got away from doing it and used a sharpie. Made more sense for me to do the cutting and shrink on the peel board.
