Do you already have a plotter ?

No. I'm fairly good with reading plans....

I'm just... solar film doesn't get me jonesing anymore. I mean.. it works... people love it... there is def. value in the product. But it doesn't get me up anymore. Not much tint-wise does... hence the thought of doing deco. I love it.. it's... unique. And makes the glass pop.

    I dunno...

  2. No ideas, but yeah.. if the coating is on the glass between the glass & film... removing the old film is bound to damage or remove that coating.

Maybe it would just come off as you remove the failed film?? Then just refilm to whatever they want to use?

Obviously, if it happens even a tiny bit.. you either have to do it all or none. Uniformity would need to be achieved. IMO

  3. That's a tiny picture. lol

I did a job sorta-kindof-not really similar, but similar.

    Disregard the post-it notes. :lol

The way I did it, and would do the job you asked about, was have each column cut out by my sign guy masked and weeded. So basically you would have 10 sheets for each pane of glass with the frosted film pre-cut to the measurements with the reveals. So you put the first column on.. top and bottom.. then just line up the rest as you go left-2-right.

The only other option, that I know of, would be to frost the whole pane... get a straight edge and cut out the reveals. Too much freaking labor and to hard to get it all lined up, IMO. Just easier to have it all cut in sheets that you just put on.

  4. So, when I tint - flatglass - I use bounty paper towels. Back in March when things started to go sideways, paper towels and TP were hard to find.

Well, all the sudden, it seems, at least paper towels are once again, scarce. No idea why. Had to go to 3 places tonight to find any - and I didn't really care what brand. Just something cause I got a job tomorrow.

Has anyone seen the same thing where you are?  Just curious. Not sure why this would be an issue at this point, but at least in my city it seems to be so.

One last question with heat reduction is there a huge difference in the temperature of the car as it sits? I can tell no difference.

No.. Tint can keep heat out to some extent, but it's still a 'box' that is being beated on by the sun. Keeping heat out and cooling the inside are two totally different things. Tint reduces heat, it does not cool air.

So regardless of what tint is on a car, if it is sitting in the sunfor any period of time... it's gonna get hot.

The difference will be when driving. I know when I am in my car w/o tint, and the AC on.... the solar heat coming thru the windows is still brutal. If the windows are tinted, the AC does a much better job at keeping the inside cool.

  6. Yeah, and I wanna be a millionaire.

Seriously though... In that kind of situation, two things are going to come in to play. If there is an overhang on the windows they have, and what time of day and/or weather conditions.

You can put up a silver film... like a silver 20.. which is rather reflective. So if it's sunny...ish... people won't be able to see in. Seeing out, again, depending on the inside lights, people might not be able to see out very well. There are some silver films that are less reflective on the inside...

You could also do the 1 way mirror films... which are generally in the 6-9% VLT range, give or take. They are super reflective on the outside but not nearly as reflective on the inside. But.. because they are dark.. they don't allow much light in.

You're gonna have to present the client with films that offer a balance of privacy and visibility.

  7. I had to go to CVS today to get a rx... and in the same plaza is a diner, and they have mock car meets now and again. And today.. I pull in and there are about a dozen vettes. I was like - wtf?!?!?! I'm all for governments not dictating what their people should or should not do... but still.. when it comes to health issues.. show some common sense and compassion for your neighbors.

  8. I dunno... people.. are.. people. Regardless of the current situation... we do what we're gonna do. Just in general - you think people are going to react to something, anything, a specific way.. but the bottom line is, people are people. I tell my mom that all the time. You can't expect more from others then what is normally done. IMO. I would like to think that 'people rise above' in various situations..... but that's false thinking. People are people. So I'm not surprised you are getting calls regardless of the 'stay at home' / 'no work'  order of PA. I'm in Jersey.. its the same here. But I'm not working unless I get a call from someone like at a hospital or something requesting security film or something....

    People are people.

    :dunno
