Tempered glass has a smooth side(label side) that should not scratch with new blades and a textured side that scratches just by looking at it .
I suspect with some (depending on manny) that the textured side may be more coarse and the adhesive is bonded better.
Kind of like why you sand things before painting to get a better bond.

Some guys use Monkey Strips to combat scratching.
Like the guys in the vid below I prefer to use a liner

And anyone interested in installing this film...
I had a short chat with with a fellow at Decorative films and I mentioned this thread.
I'll paraphase a bit:
He mentioned that the film is Triacetate which ABSORBS water. "Normal " install methods contribute to absorption /swelling of the film so as it dries it shrinks back to its original size which comes at the cost of the film retreating from the edges or by lifting.
If you are flooding the film by spraying a ton of slip on the naked glass to do a strip and flip from one pane to another and then spraying the adhesive side while the liner is pulled. All that water holding your film on the glass is absorbing into the film as it sits on the glass.
Best case is to FULLY read the install instructions. Keep the slip to a minimum . Do a two man Spray and pray.(One sucker holds film in the air and the other sprays him in the face...sorry sprays the adhesive side while pulling liner) Knock down the film HARD like you are installing security film.
Have fun out there like these guys do...
