I'm not the best teacher in the world, and some of what S2S said I agree with...What I disagree with is letting them find their own way early on. .. I insist they learn my way until they are competent enough to install without supervision. I know my way works, and I know what happens and why, if steps are not done correctly. I have no interest in letting a newbie experament in the learning curve, and trying to figure out a way for everyone's different approach to be successful. .. Learn my way.. master it.. then if you can improve on it .. have at it.

While that may be possible, I won't see it in my lifetime. I do however see what I have described happening in the next decade

It's not difficult to imagine that auto glass will have self darkening capability. And also have the capability to be electronically controlled or limited in VLT via a simple computer. Example .. A car is sold in NY and before delivery the dealer sets the computer to maintain clear front windows. Of course this could be disabled by a owner who has access to the scan tools. That said, I see a bigger set of hurdles coming down the pipe in the flat glass markets. With film costs on the rise and some film costs in the 4-7.00 PSF alone.. It does not bode well for building or property owners looking for ROI.

IMO, the window film business as we know it today willnot be the same in the next 7-10 years. Cars as well as Flat glass will have auto darkening capabilities , laws will become ever more restrictive for auto and enforced. Building code has today become incredibly energy conscious and the glass units that are being utilized today are incredibly efficient. Adding window film to them almost never shows a reasonable ROI on larger projects. Not to far off on the horizon is mandates for new construction to have triple pane glass to meet energy requirements... so unless you are filming external... you are not filming those units. .. this industry has some serious headwinds coming at it.. but hey.. the automobile will never catch on and horses will always the main source of transportation for people ... right ?

TomTint got a reaction from Tint Eastwood in Seeking advice regarding residential security window film
Film on those would be possible if you used Pentagon or Gull Wing for attachment. You may have clearaniissues as the window goes up and down. Without seeing and testing, I can't be certain. Both of those systems are essentially a strip of rubber with tape on one side. One 1/2 of it sticks to the frame, the other to the film. They are big, ugly and impossible to hide. ... if it were. E, I would be looking for someone to buy some spice ornamental iron window bars from. .02

TomTint got a reaction from Roach in Having House Windows Tinted - 3m vs Llumar vs ASWF and question about adhesive
The optical clarity of the PR line of films is worst in class. Given the option of having a PS adhesive or a Dry adhesive in a residential or commercial application.. CDF wins every time. ( CDF stands for clear distortion free ) Eastman / Llumar /Vista are the benchmark for this technology. Typically the PS adhesive is the first thing to fail in today's films, CDF adhesives have a history of lasting 25+ years without failure. The companies that do not have access to CDF technology and have no other option than PS.. well .. are obviously going to downplay its advantages

We bid a project with it a couple weeks ago. Gave them that option as well as Lumisty. ( similar price points ) the cloaking film is directional, in other words it needs to be installed vertically as it comes out of the box on the floor. If you flip it 90* .. it doesn't work. This limits the size of the window that can get full coverage without a seam, to the width of the film itself.
