This one I outright refused to tint. It smelled like garbage can. 2001 Chevy Cavalier coup too. Hard pass.

Spent a good portion of the day getting all my film off my old, dilapidated shelves and onto a new shelf that’s easier to access. The floors will also be getting a nice treatment soon. Then finally a/c. Baby steps.

Whatever you do, PLEASE don’t become the cheap guy when you start. It seems so common for every new shop entry to want to have the lowest price. Shop A will set a sign out front $120/car. Shop B down the road $109/car.  Shop A says nope, changes sign to $105/car. Shop B retaliates by changing sign to $99/car. It makes ZERO sense to race to the bottom. That does nothing but ruin your local market and steer the cheap people your way. And you don’t want ether of those. Good luck with everything!

Off road day to today it seems. I also tinted a couple boat windows that a customer brought in.

Carry two olfa knives in your pouch. One for cutting doors. One for ONLY cutting back windows or 1/4 windows. Mark the one that you use for back windows only (I have a small piece of black vinyl on mine). The reason for  this is every time you cut the top edge of a door glass, your blade will get dulled. So if you use that same blade on the back window, even if it’s freshly snapped there’s still a chance you’ll score the glass. And that’s no bueno. Using the marked knife will guarantee the blade is the sharpest it can be because it’ll be fresh from tip to end. But make sure to still snap it every time you lift it off the glass to cut a different edge(that’s what I do anyway).

Well I know they offer a training course and claim to be able to teach someone how to tint in a weekend. I've worked with a "graduate" of this course. He couldn't even clean a window properly. The film he brought back reminded me of Sol-tek. Which was garbage. Personally I'd stick with a name brand or at least one that more than one person can vouch for. Just my

It's up to us as professionals to educate the idiots. I would've tried to sell that person on the benefits of clear on the entire windshield and then explained that the lower strip is illegal.
Customers aren't always right, but a lot are *right now* as in "either do it right now or I'll go somewhere else". I send those custys right on down the road to the neighborhood hack shop.

Ok well I'm done debating something I know is true. He had Flex Film and the shop was less than 100 miles away from the company. He personally told me everything I have relayed in previous posts. Believe me or not it doesn't matter to me. There was no miscommunication between me and the detailer, who told me about his experience. I laughed when he told me the story, because as a tinter I know you can't teach someone anything in a weekend. But that's what happened. Take it or leave it.
