pottsnpanz reacted to Blackwolftinting in Tinted a friend’s Miata hardtop
This was the first time in about 15 years that I’ve done a chrome cut out. My friend loves No Face, a character from some Japanese anime show. She had it tinted by another shop, and they left dirt EVERYWHERE and about a 3/4” light gap on the top. Retinted it with Suntek StdPro 5% and SDS-20 as the cut out. She was really happy with the final outcome. I thought it was cool.

I haven’t found a good way to tint that car yet. But there will be a new tool coming out soon. It’s for bottom loading with the seal in. I’ll let you know how it works on that car as soon as I use it.

nothing like your wedding ring scratching the side window on the last car of the day when you are hard carding.

This is very important to leave the least amount of glue possible.
As for the glue, we use 3M general purpose adhesive cleaner

pottsnpanz reacted to DynamicATL in Meth Bust Due To Illegal tint
In GA only two shops I know of that only do legal...one is because of the law and the other is God related. Personally I do not get hung up on what is legal because that has to do with the state you are talking about. What is illegal to you can be perfectly legal to me and vice versa...that doesn't mean the shade is necessarily unsafe. I have seen a tinter that installs 30% legally in their state hound another for doing illegal installs because they installed a 50% in a state that requires 70%. Like really? This is why we stick to 15 & up on sides/rear and 50 & up on windshields. IMO if you can't safely see out of those shades with our optically clear window films, then I doubt a slightly higher legal shade would be much different. We do not do 5% even on legal applications like over privacy glass on SUV/Trucks simply because we feel it is too unsafe. Plus 5% people tend to only want entry level film, so that is not the customer I want anyway. In the end, all tinters/shops will choose to go the route they feel is best for them even if others see it as stupid.

I do them on the side. I don’t do ppf so I can’t compare profits. The biggest thing with coatings is the prep work. It’s an involved Job that I sometime wonder why I do it. Ceramic pro and gtechniq are two brands that come to mind. I like nanoskin mega trend too

Might be tough to get direction on this one here.
Most of us are film guys in some shape or form. (Auto or Flat Glass Tint and/or PPF)
Don't know how many detailers are around these parts.
Good luck though! Honestly hope to see an answer from a trusted name here.

pottsnpanz reacted to florida tinter in Lack of oxygen in the car after window tinting
I would have taken a light meter ...turn it on and tell her its an oxygen meter.....get in the back seat with the doors closed take a minute and come out and tell her the oxygen levels are within industry standards then check the front seats , doors closed and tell her the drivers side is in fact a bit lower than the passenger side for some reason....but all oxygen levels are satisfactory ...then tell her there is a $100 fee for the oxygen service but you will wave it because she is such a good customer.

pottsnpanz reacted to ErieTint in Gloves
I'm with @jh812. I only wear a white cotton glove for shrinking rear glass.
I had the same thought as you but wondered if they would stick if you touch the adhesive side where your fingers would slip.
(I know, I know, no one ever touches the adhesive...)

pottsnpanz reacted to CustomGlassTinter in Gloves
I wear the nitrile gloves when stripping back windows, or when working around the hot old butyl seals just so my hands don't get all sticky. I think any dirt on your finger tips wouldn't be as tactile, and wearing gloves would increase the risk of contamination.

Tip # 283--Wait for the neighbor to finish cutting his yard before you start tinting.

I use the right amount of heat and pull at the right angle as to not leave to much glue behind.
