Wallpapering/fitting tinting

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I have a huge area in my new home to wallpaper on some feature walls and having never done it and having certainly mastered window tinting...... how much more difficult would it be?

Short of that I can get someone in who specialises in it but I'm wondering is it easy?

Any advice appreciated.

I've often pointed out to "wallpaper guys" that want to get into film that they are only 1/4 of the way there if you can manipulate a large panel of material.

First step is always to know what ALL the steps are BEFORE you get started.

Surprises suck.

Depending on which kind of prepasted or "paste it yourself " used you may find its a much messier job than you are used to.

Seams should be easy enough.

Have at it and get all the adhesive off you before you get back at the film installs.

did some wallpaper about 10 years ago.  Very simple IMO.  Have a large table or place on floor you can lay out paper to paste.  Even if "self pasted" I would still use a paste on it.  Get a wallpaper brush to apply the paper.

One big thing is DON'T stretch the paper which is very easy to do.  If you do it will likely shrink back once dry and not line up or have gaps.

Some will say do a slight overlap and others a butt seam.  Some of that depends on the paper pattern.  If you can do a slight overlap as it will avoid all chance of gaps later....

I would definitely recommend using sizing on the walls prior to the application of the wallpaper. Trust me, you will thank me when it comes time to change or remove the wallpaper. If you don't, you run a big risk of pulling off chunks of drywall. Just my :twocents.
