Guess I’m an old fart doing the average car in 3-4 hours. Then again I rarely have a warranty or redo. Charge more and work less is my goal.

Lol I don’t even use “NO” when I get quotes through yelp asking if they can get a discount if they bring in multi cars. I just hit the “I don’t intend to reply” button. If a customer is asking that they’re the worst kind. Usually cheap and picky.

i've seen remote starts do that because of the crimp on connectors. i personally had a TL that did that, went back and soldered all connections and it started fine every time.

It’s an anti-fog coating it makes the slip bead up. To this day I have not found a solution that can take it off. The only thing that works is tinting it and letting it fully cure and removing it. The tint will remove the anti-fog. On the plus side once tinted removing the film is usually super easy and won’t leave any adhesive. Cars that have this require extra work like removing panels or seals to make the install go faster because you don’t have a lot of time. I use a two bottle set up. One spray bottle with limited slip for roll ups and a pump bottle with extra soap  for back windows and for the bottom of roll ups so that it’s easier to tuck. The cars with anti fog I’ll use the pump sprayer for rolls up.

I get interrupted far too often being a one man operation to get too focused on speed. I probably could knock out the average sedan in about two hours if I didn't get any interruptions, most realistically take me closer to three or four. I also really focus on accuracy and quality, my come back rate is basically zero, I can count on one hand my comebacks from the last three years.

If you are at 1.5 hrs and doing good clean work and not breaking shiz, you are doing great. I have worked with some great tinters in my day. All were pretty much 1.5-2hrs  for a average sedan or longer. Guy's that were much faster then that always did crap work. This is just from my experience. Not saying all faster guys do bad work. When I interview a installer and he leads with how fast he is, I know pretty much right out of the gate it is not going to work out.

Shoot, if you can do a good install in 3 hrs, don't smoke crack, show up on time, don't look like you crawled out of a gutter, have no baby mama drama, and can communicate better then a 3 year old, I would consider that win for your boss.

I always get asked how fast and how many can you do in a day.
This is not a race (cant get that through the head of some installers).
I get paid once (redos are free, and I don't do redos.) I have no problem laying out the average 4 dr sedan about 50 minutes start to finish, but when an audi, vw, Porsche or other wagon or suv, which is well paid, I take the time needed to make sure the customer is happy.
We know as installers when we lay a window if it is up to par...if you have to think about something you know is there and have to second guess yourself if it is good enough, that is the time to replace it. I don't care if your boss says I want numbers and let it go, if that is the case, time to hand your squeeges to your boss and tell him to do it., ask some of these established individuals on here, professionalism goes a long way with window film. people are funny about window film, they will be a lifetime customer if they like your work weather you are at that company or not. It is not easy to find a company or installer as a consumer to leave their vehicle not knowing what type of care it will be given.

Seriously I have a customer tomorrow with a 2001 CTS that wants an R/R. $100 for the backglass plus $80 for removal pending my inspection. It can go up from there. Tomorrow is only an inspection appointment. They’ll have to make another appointment for removal. I’m up front with the customer about this and he still wanted the appointment. I’m reconfirming the appointment today  hopefully he doesn’t even show up or answer any of my calls 🙏🏼

I’ve been making my own soak shields for a long time now. I get some remote wire then I take paper shop towels and I twist them into a rope around the wire. This is only a one time use. The real soak shields look way better and I might have to invest in some.

For a sedan I usually start at $150 for removal. That’s pending my inspection. Depending on the age and how I feel when it’s shows up the price can go up. If it’s delaminated I won’t even do them. I’m upfront with the customer about this and I also tell them there’s a GOOD chance you will lose some or all of your defroster lines. Then I ask them if they still want an appointment.

    Im sorry,
do you know the cars or window types that have TSER in the 90%?
Yes glass industry has evolved a bunch thru the years and I have mentioned it before but some folks the industry have told that it wasnt a threat.
Also i feel that once regular sedan cars start coming out with factory dark tinted windows in the rear we will definitely see a slow down like we did in the early 90's with SUVs coming tinted, once it becomes default on sedans like suvs, i think we should be concerned. Rest in peach to Vclimber but he agreed with me in regards to that. We should all have a backup plan although window tint will always be needed regardless.

Uber's and autonomous vehicles will still need tint, one of the many great things about America is that the states somewhat make their own laws. Since states have different window tint laws, it would be very expensive for manufacturers to try to solve that issue.
